Biography
The gifted daughter of two wildclaws from the Diabase Demesne, Veronica always felt stifled as a child. Her parents, after all the trouble they got into while younger, couldn't really be blamed for feeling super protective of their child; they just wanted to prevent her getting into the same traps they fell into. Especially since from a young age she showed a knack for similar telepathic abilities to her mother. But stifled she felt all the same, and so one night, a teenage Veronica snuck out while her parents were sleeping, and headed out south, across the Shattered Plain.
She wandered for a few weeks, doing odd jobs for clans along the way to feed herself, not staying anywhere for long. But then, bad luck struck. Standing atop the edge of a deep gorge, the ground gave out from under her, sending her tumbling towards the bottom, and trapping one of her wings and legs under a pile of rubble. With her consciousness swiftly fading from her injuries, she reached out, out with her telepathy, and managed to find a nearby mind to send two images to; an image of her injuries, and the best image she could remember of where she was before she fell.
She awoke next to a campfire, with a kind face smiling down at her, and her wing splint and injuries bandaged. The mind she found was of a friendly Wildclaw named Canyon, who was fond of exploring and hiking the very same area Veronica had fallen, and thus knew exactly how to get to her when she saw the image of the gorge in her mind. Canyon offered Veronica a place to stay with her clan, and although Veronica was at first wary of this stranger, she didn't have anywhere else to go. The walk home was slow, due to Veronica's injuries, but Canyon never showed any impatience, and seemed eager both to learn about Veronica (and especially the abilities that saved her life), and to share about herself. By the time they arrived home they had already started to become fast friends, a bond that only deepened as time went on. And Canyon even arranged to have a message sent back to the Diabase Demesne to let Veronica's parents know she was ok when she learned of V's origins.
Veronica has a near photographic memory, and very much prefers communicating with telepathic images rather than words; she feels this allows her to get more meaning across than speech and body language, although she only communicates thus with people she knows she can trust won't be scared by her abilities. Canyon and Veronica are almost constantly communicating this way at all hours of the day and night. Veronica shares Canyon's love of exploring and hiking, and they're rarely seen without the company of the other while out and about. Veronica can seem very short with people she doesn't feel safe communicating telepathically to, and this has gotten her into trouble more than once. Fortunately Canyon's usually around to apologize for any slights (intentional or not) V's shortness can cause.
