Companion: Maron Warlock
Official Mate: None

______ "T hey started life as thick black tar haemorrhaging from their mother's body, the infection so deep and strong within Macha that the excess congealed into curious egg like shapes, each stuck together, refusing to be pried free.

Armagh took them, unsure whether these truly were eggs, or something unsalvageable from Macha's ailing form. But, his devotion and adoration for her didn't allow him to leave them to rot. Tentatively, Armagh let his own meagre magics flow into them, coaxing whatever wisp of being that might be contained to life. And so, they grew.

This one was the first to claw free of his egg, sharp claws scoring through the unsettlingly soft shell of his egg, black liquid bubbling over to soak into their rudimentary nest. Some of that same tar oozes from his mouth, his nose, his eyes-- but he is unhindered.

There is a wicked intelligence behind unblinking eyes, the copy of his mother, bearing an eerie resemblance to his grandfather. But, whether or not he is ever truly dragon is yet to been. The shade infection persists-- can you be cured of what you are?”

______ At least in the case of Amon, by not a little bit of luck, it was possible to be cured. Having been found as a small hatchling wandering through the Contagion— like many young plaguelings— by Mnementh on a diplomatic mission, he was brought back to the Southern Icefields in a basket. Leaking black ooze onto everything he touched, Amon was put before Rohan to see if there was anything the healer and sorcerer could do.

“This child is the Shade,” said the Imperial, looking down at the voiceless, still creature that had long since been weakened by the cold, “this body is held together by only the barest touches of love and the weakest hint of plague magic.”

With the royal counsel ready to give up on the tiny creature, Eingana stepped forward and offered up a solution initially proposed by Anatole, to give the child up to Eostre and himself to see if there was any salvaging that could be done for the childs spirit. Mnementh gave in to his mate’s request, not willing to see his mate upset if he could help it.

For three days the necromancer and the scientist worked through their plan, to kill the child and transfer his spirit into another body, one not inhabited by the Shade. While his body was disposed of, his spirit was kept in a flask, watching blearily as they brought a similar host body into the lab and began to prep it for transfer. This body was one taken from a young wanderer in the tundra, who had seemed to have been sent as an exalt to the Icewarden. Instead however, the spirit was cast out of the body for parts unknown, and Amon was born anew.

The transfer stained his body with waves of blood red and a dark, poisonous blue, and left him a new child, almost completely reborn. This child was taken up by Mnementh and Eingana as their ward, and, once they had seen enough to tell that there was no hint of shade left, eventual son. Soon Amon was shadowing his new parents as they went about their business, and was beginning to learn the truth of his heritage, although all mentions of the shade were extinguished, and his memories of his time in the flask relegated to the barest of nightmares. Because of the secrecy of his past, most of his own clan is unaware of it, thinking only that he was abandoned and found by their leader, but the truth is a heavy burden on Amon, and he longs to prove himself to his parents in a way that will justify their faith.
