Biography

| SATIN | [♫] Leather and Lace
{ Silk Merchant | He/Him | Gay }

Satin was born of Ice, but raised in the Sunbeam Ruins. His parents were servants to a wealthy noble house, and he was slated to follow in their footsteps, as children of their family had for generations. From the moment he was old enough to hold a broom in his two small hands, he was taught to obey without question. His wretched childhood was spent learning to keep his head down and his mouth shut, for servants were not people and thus had no voice.

His mother and father, wishing a better life for their only son, worked themselves to exhaustion to buy his freedom, but passed when he was young. Their loss left him bitter, cynical, and unbearably lonely. Still, he hid what little coin they had managed to scrimp and save from his masters, clinging to the hope that he may one day grant his parents' wish.

As he grew older, stronger, and undeniably more beautiful, he was granted certain luxuries by the master of the house. One such luxury was access to sewing materials. He found it to be an excellent coping mechanism and took up the hobby of mending his fellow servants’ clothes for them. He thought that if he was to be miserable, he may as well make their lives a bit less so. In this way, he became popular among his peers, earning their trust and their loyalty.

It wasn’t long before they paid him back in full. One balmy summer day, the mistress of the house found herself in need of someone to mend her very fine, very delicate silks, and the other servants, eternally grateful to him for his kindness, recommended Satin to her. Impressed by his steady hand and skill with such fragile material, she soon began to view him as an asset. In only a few short months’ time, the two were inseparable. She brought him everywhere with her, to the market, to galas, even to court. In her eyes, he was irreplaceable—and an irreplaceable servant can make demands.

He did not ask for much, only that he be paid a modest wage. The mistress, who thought he was ever so clever and ever so talented, was quick to agree. Perhaps too quick. During his time with her, Satin had learned the art of manipulation, and the more perfectly he played his part, the more his wages increased, until he had amassed a small fortune behind the master of the house’s back. With this and the money his parents had saved before their deaths, he bought his way out of the servant caste.

Then, without so much as a backward glance, he left his homeland, never to return.

When he arrived in Feldspar territory, he had only the shirt on his back and a few gold pieces left over from his long journey. He did not need to be wheedled into revealing his past; he did so honestly and openly. It was a relief, he claimed, to finally share his burdens with someone he felt might sympathize.

Dreamweaver suggested he pursue a career as a silk merchant. It was his skill at mending that had earned him his freedom, so it seemed only fitting that it now earn him coin as a free man. With the founders’ help, Satin opened his shop in the village square, a shining testament to what hard work and determination (“…and perhaps a pinch of spite”) can get you.

Since settling in-territory, Satin has truly come into his own. He is beloved by many of the village's residents for his generous nature and willingness to lend a hand at all hours—not to mention his beauty, which has only grown greater since his departure from his homeland. He has, however, become quite vain with time, and the silver-tongue he developed while enslaved remains his most terrible feature. If he feels he must, he can manipulate just about anyone into doing just about anything for him.

Even so, he endeavors to use his powers only for good.
