Maighread is unlike most mirrors, in that she will put aside her constant hunger for the greater good. In this case she leads the hunting party on the daily quest to sustain the clan. She is loyal only to Coinneach and to Ashling, but since they are loyal to the rest of the clan she tolerates them. When she first arrived in Coinneach's territory she was struck by his generous nature. He welcomed her in with open arms, and although she felt no physical attraction to him she decided to stay in his clan and learn what she could from him.

There was some tension when Ihapere first arrived in the clan, many would have seen the new arrival as a threat to their status. But Maighread knew that there were things that she could not, and did not want to give to Coinneach. Seeing that Ihapere was willing to nest with him, and that she would take care and protect him while Maighread was out hunting. It cannot be said that they are friends. But really Ashling is Maighread's only friend in the clan.
