Mandragora was rescued at the last second by Emberglo's friend Sludgy, who offered her in trade for a Snapper hatchling with the circuit gene. Her name was Ragnarok then, but she changed her name when Mandrake, her mate, chose his name. Weasley, her Sparrowmouse, gave her the peridot jewels so that he would always be with her (it is one of his colors), because sometimes he has to fly and she, being a Snapper, can't accompany him. She also wears his feathers - the ones he no longer needs.

Mandrake's and Mandragora's familiars are shape-shifters. They can become cats, but are very careful to both change at the same time so they don't become tempted to eat each other. They both keep their long feathers as whiskers when they change.

One of Mandragora's favorite duties is to search out the Maple leaves for Mandrake. He includes them in his welcoming package to new Shadow lairs. She is very particular and chooses only the finest leaves for him to distribute. After all, if they are going to be used for wishes to Shadowbinder, they must be worthy of her.
