In his youth, Frost was a mercenary, and a rather strong one, too. He was nigh invincible on the battlefield, and few dared to face him head-on. However, on a certain mission, he encountered a dragon he learned was his younger sister, orphaned and alone. He took her in and decided to change his career to something more stable. Rime and Frost settled down at a large trading outpost, where Frost took up smithing. He was a skilled blacksmith. Despite his great size, his dextrous claws were capable of even the smallest and most delicate of works-- even fae rings weren’t too much.

He was a gentle soul at heart, dedicated to improving his craft and caring for his sister. Unfortunately, his easy temperament was hard to see, for his most genuine smiles always came off a little… malicious and threatening. His great bulk and offputting expressions drove away plenty of potential customers, and he was quite insecure about it.

However, there was one customer who never seemed to mind him. An ornery skydancer with a penchant for Frost’s jewelry was a frequent visitor to their shop. Over many visits, Frost learned that he was a scholar named Asis. Asis’ works on magic theory were quite advanced, and he was held in high esteem in the academic community. He spent most of his time traveling, gathering knowledge and speaking with other dragons about his work. As such, he often passed through the traveling hub where Frost lived. He found the shop’s atmosphere quite calming. Frost was pleased to find someone who wasn’t afraid of him, and he practically stuck to Asis’ side whenever the scholar visited.

But, Frost lamented, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be. Asis soon stopped visiting. Frost spent his hours moping around the shop looking even more menacing than usual. One eve, the bell above their door jingled happily. Frost didn’t even look up, as he was busy carving a skydancer into the wooden counter. When he heard his name, though, his head jerked up. At the door stood Asis, haggard and weary. He looked seconds away from collapse, and there was a haunted look in his eyes that made Frost’s heart twist. He vaulted over the counter and ushered Asis inside, cleaning the dust and grime from his scales and offering him food. Afterwards, Asis falteringly told him what happened.

Asis met another scholar, and they immediately hit it off together. He ended up staying by the other’s side. Asis’ voice trembled as he spoke of “Mark”. He brushed over the details of their acquaintance, but Frost heard his anguish. He told Frost that Mark had fallen into madness, that his experiments had killed an innocent hatchling. He told Frost he killed Mark.
“And then,” he rasped. “I needed to come somewhere… safe.” Frost hesitantly came closer and wrapped his tail around Asis, whispering words of comfort until Asis’ exhausted eyes closed, and he fell into uneasy sleep.

The next morning, Asis announced that he was leaving, but Frost insisted on going along this time. He was worried about Asis, scared that he would disappear for good this time. Despite Asis’ arguments, Frost was stubborn when he needed to be and frightfully gentle besides. Rime stayed behind to look after the store, and Frost set out on a journey across Sornieth. Although Asis had tried his best to dissuade him, he quickly adjusted to having a traveling partner. Frost enjoyed listening to his endless chatter, and Asis was surprisingly courteous(a privilege that seemed to be for Frost alone). He often gave Frost small gifts and baubles, and Frost treasured every single one of them. He also began to reciprocate, beginning a careful courtship ritual of crafted jewelry tributes and acts of affection. This delicate balance of theirs lasted for an eternity until a would-be bandit failed in his thieving and successfully unearthed the two’s feelings for each other.
