As a hatchling, Hephaestus always had a desire to roam. His parents had hoped to turn this passion for travel into a passion for research and apprenticed him to the clan's archivist. Hephaestus found a natural talent for the work and enjoyed his time learning. And yet, the lure of the world still had a hold on him. So it was to little surprise that upon reaching maturity and fulfilling his apprenticeship, he chose to leave his home nest and wander through the world as a traveling peddler. Through the years Hephaestus saw many wonders and collected hundreds of stories as well as trinkets. One day, while resting in the lair of a generous clan on the Windswept Plateau, Hephaestus observed a young Imperial female meticulously crafting a highly intricate glass sculpture. Impressed with her skill, he struck up a conversation. It turned out that this particular dragon also shared in his desire to see more of the world of Sorneith. Hephaestus had long wanted for a companion to share the roads with him, and that companion turned out to be Aglaea. With their skills combined, they traveled far and wide, attaining a reputation as some of the best glassblowers of Sorneith. After years of adventures, the two dragons realized they wished for some permanency in their lives. They decided to settle down permanently in the Clan of Fire and Smoke, where they were welcomed by the craftsmen of the Ashfall Waste with open arms. Today, their area of the lair is covered with bits and odds and ends from their travels. Once a year they host a glassblowing contest in which clans from all over the Ashfall Waste take part. Hephaestus is rather relaxed, with an easy smile and a booming laugh that can be heard many miles away. He believes the imperfections in a final product gives the piece character and a story to tell. |
