Though Fire was not where she had been born, this was Gwendolyn’s home. Born originally in Wind Clan, as a young dragon she had made her way to Fire’s lands. It had been mostly on accident – wanderlust combined with a storm with great gales and wind that tossed her about had caused her to get lost among the bamboo, and by the time she knew where she was again, she was looking at a volcano. Disoriented from the whirlwind she had been dropped down from, she hadn’t known which way was home. It was not this way… but, she did not mind so much. If she couldn’t find her home back in wind, she would find a new one here. Adventuring around and looking for a clan to call her own took a few days – some were suspicious of her, some found her overbearing, but eventually, she found a place to call her own. And then the transition from Wind to Fire hadn’t been a bad one at all. The clan that found her was immediately welcoming, and feeling that innate rootlessness of those born of Wind, she decided that since this was where the wind had carried her, it was here that she would settle for a while.

A while stretched from days, to weeks, to months, and as she had not yet felt the call to leave, Gwendolyn stayed. She watched as, while she was at home in Fire, others, from other flights, joined them. Her own home flight had never welcomed many outsiders – not that they didn’t like them, she just couldn’t recall there ever being visitors. But it seemed this Fire Clan she had stumbled upon welcomed all sorts, and her thirst for learning about other places was sated in part by the stories of these travelers. When some of those travelers decided to stay as well, they became sources of information, dragons who could tell her of places she’d never seen and share wild stories far grander than her own life-changing one of merely getting lost in the woods.

For now, it is here in the Fire Clan that she will stay. With each new traveler comes new stories that she knows she can hear no where else. But, perhaps, one day, the wind will carry her off again, to explore the father reaches of the world she has not yet been. To see for herself the places in the stories others have told her about. That would be quite the incredible journey…

…but unless the wind pulled her off again, she was here to stay.
