The Guardian sits at her desk and frowns. Though the sun shines and bathes her in warmth she cannot help but feel something is terribly amiss.
status: Part of the Coven of Tephra, an underground religion dedicated to the spirit of a fallen star. Despises Noire for expelling Sol and Luz.

When Hestia was a young adult she unknowingly reunited with her ancestor--an intimidating, burning Bogsneak by the name of Luz. While this fact would not be acknowledged for many years Hestia developed a degree of respect and admiration for the older dragon and took to writing down stories and tales Luz lived and heard of during her youth. What began as exchange of information and ancient culture became a meaningful relationship akin to a parent and child.

Luz was a beacon in the dark depths of Pendulum's lair. Her words were strong and confident; they held wisdom of a time Hestia did not want to forget. Unintentionally Luz pushed the Guardian to become enthralled with the way the world once was. Beliefs, rituals, and ideals of another era overwhelmed her thoughts. Hestia found meaning in holding the past in her grasp and watching it as she would one of her hatchlings. The concept of an archive and preservation of old books and tomes was no new novelty let alone her idea but no matter the circumstances-her memory of how exactly things came to be are foggy-Hestia started the path of an Archivist.

Sacrilegious texts and scriptures along with every other battered binding of parchment and aged inkwells became her Charge. The past was hers to protect and the Archives of Pendulum her grounds to claim and guard. It was in her species name, after all--Hestia was the Guardian of old times and she swore to carry out the duty until the end of her days.

"Tephra." Luz spoke the name with respect as she looked from one shelf of books to the next. The Bogsneak was unusually melancholy and deep in thought. "Do ya know the legend of him, descendant? A tale of a star that was martyred for the sake of free will--tragic, yeah, surely, but it an important one for ya to know."

Hestia gently nestled a book titled
'History of Sornieth: The Ages' in a lower shelf. She straightened upright and looked to the Bogsneak with a curious orange gaze. "I have heard rumors, ancestor. Bits and pieces from the other members of the Inner Sanctum but I myself know little beyond that. Is that the answer you want from me?"

Luz snorted and sat on the ground, back against a bookshelf. She crossed her arms. "Nah."

"Then what? I cannot read your mind." The Guardian stated flatly. The fins along the side of her head lower. "Ancestor?"

"I can tell ya many things but by the dying fire's light I dun be able to make ya able to ask what ya need to ask. You got to take initiative. Ask what yer mind drives you to. Think through your thoughts and... uh. Well." The Bogsneak trailed off and gradually began to chuckle more and more. "All I am gonna say is... ask. Go on! Yer intrigued, I can tell, descendant. If yer gonna preserve the past get on with it! Stop hesitatin' or it may be too late!"

The words were blunt and painful advice coming from a dragon Hestia cherished greatly. Her eyes narrowed and for a moment she felt all-too-defensive: posture stiff, claws scrapping into the cavern floor, and teeth gritting so hard she could hear them in her skull. Yet there was something in the words Luz offered that drew Hestia in; as lost as the Guardian was in the past she had every reason to trust the Bogsneak in the guidance offered regardless how close it struck to home. Luz had propelled her journey of Archivist forward and helped her find meaning in her own self-worth. Hell, the Bogsneak could take credit for making Hestia find her Charge--that was but another piece piling up on Luz' side.

The Bogsneak was not always kind but neither was Hestia. She had her fair share of retorts and outbursts in the past. Kindness was subjective and right now Luz was not kind in the sense of sugar-coated prose--she was kind in the sense of raw syllables and harsh inflections. If Luz wanted Hestia to ask then she surely had a reason behind doing so and Hestia needed to know it.

"Then let me begin at Tephra, ancestor. This Tephra," the Guardian did not ask but demanded, clearly. "Tell me of him. His tale. His relevance. Tell me about the star Tephra!"

Luz looked satisfied. The Bogsneak sat upright and nodded. "Now yer speaking like a real Archivist, Hestia."
