His past is as enigmatic as the man himself. How Pierce originally met Riviel neither of them are willing to disclose, but many have guested simply based off the unquestioning, unwavering loyalty Pierce has for his captain that the event must have been life-threatening. Then again, most can't actually picture Pierce in a life-threatening situation unless he happened to be the one threatening said life himself. Stories have come about, eager tellers in Torque having a heyday making dramatic attempts, but no one is brave enough to ask the skydancer directly. And Riviel only ever answers with a grin.

Though a First Mate, Pierce typically acts more as an enforcer on the Silverbird, and off it. He shadows Riviel like a flame-eyed hawk, and is usually the first intimidating face any see before a meeting with Riviel. Some could accuse him of being a glorified errand boy, doing all the dirty work Riviel himself can't be bothered to do, but, again, no one yet has had the gall to say as much to Pierce's face.
