The Dark One
This spark of black that I seem to love
Subter is strange, no way around that.
He showed up after The Incident and made himself at home on the ship. However no one can remember him being around before that. Most dragons in the clan rank him on the same level as Nightshade but for different reason. Things just seem to fail around him. Magitek breaks when he touches it and arcane spells suddenly run out of power. Nothing too obvious but enough to show something strange is going on.
There are whispers that the reason these happenings are connected to The Incident and the strange humming black gemstones on his body. When he hears of the rumors, Subter just smiles, a dark secretive thing that exposes way too many teeth. He has no past, no loving mother or father. He does not need them.
He knows of his purpose. The body he has is nothing more than a vessel for his dark overlords, The Shade. He watched as the more foolish ones congratulate themselves on escaping from such a foe. The smarter ones, he watches them break under stress and slight paranoia, the ones who suspicious of their escape. Because they didn't and to him, it is a game and one he will win.
The entire ship will succumb to blackness and become another vessel in the glorious service of The Shade.
Not all of them will be new vessels, their minds and personalities twisted irreparably dark. And that it why Subter is there. To pick the ones who will be perfect.
It's not to say he doesn't have emotions. To the rest of the ship, he appears quiet with a biting humor that comes out at the expense of others. Especially Magsys. He is always amused when she grows angry at him, snarling insults at him as Dynamite hurries over. And there are others. When Dynamite sweeps Magsys back into his care with her never seeming to mind bothers him. Subter has the sin of envy and what he envies in the bond between a Guardian and a Charge.
But it doesn't matter now. Eventually a crack will appear and he will wedge himself into it and the ship will fall.
