Biography
Born to the chief engineer and the windreader of clan Cathgear, Nightstorm is a true lightning dragon. Both parents seemed to want to teach her what they knew, and it was a lot of detailed information:
Blindside wanted to train her on machinery and design, hoping to groom another for the secondary engineering team. She worked hard to try to make sense of the diagrams, but there was too much of her mother in her to sit still and really take in dense handbooks and long lectures with multiple tools. She came away with a layman's knowledge of how to do all kinds of things, but she just didn't have it in her to become a specialist.
Tsunami wanted to teach her about how to read the winds, but she couldn't quite follow what Tsunami could. She couldn't hear the winds change, or tell air pressure and current the same way that Tsunami could. But it did make her start paying attention to the atmosphere, where she learned something else.
Instead, she had another gift: she could sense electricity anywhere. The Machine in her home clan pulsed, like the giant heart of the greater organism that made up the whole clan. The desert whispered to her, static caressing her wings and making her buzz with the urge to be out in them.
She had too much wanderlust, they said. She needed to be out and about, where she could chase storms and dance in lightning, maybe carrying resistors to charge batteries the fun way. That's exactly what Shattersky, a dragon who's also attuned to lightning like she is, suggested - let her go free. Let her fly.
It worked for a while. She grew strong, she was ecstatic, and test results were favorable - she was performing an important enough task. But one day, she strayed a little too far from home, stretching her growing wings in pursuit of a fast-moving stormcloud. She wasn't ready for it to leave, needing the comfort of raw energy buzzing around her. She underestimated her own strength, and soon, Cathgear vanished far away, lost somewhere in the vast reaches of desert. She was hopelessly lost.
