Biography

The Broken Spiral

"I am still breathing and that is all I need to get up and move on with the day."

Guest Patient | Mate: ? | Story: Nightmares of the Forgotten--
hY99qjc.png

nqwtaLA.png Estellia was found disoriented and seriously injured on the edge of Lake Arris. When she was brought to Stormy and her healers the Spiral was near the brink of expiring. By the grace of the Windsinger, they managed to bring her back, but the healers were unable to stop whatever ailment she suffered from turning her skin to crystal and causing her to break out in the gembond hives.

Once she woke she was unable to explain what happened. Her mind was fuzzy and Stormy suggested that was a result of the constant agony her condition caused her. The healers work tirelessly to help her maintain an acceptable level of pain while trying to figure out a way to remove the curse from Estellia's flesh and return the Spiral to her original state.

Estellia remains determined, even with the pain that makes it difficult to lift even a finger. Between the pain and the memory loss, one might think she would be in a state of miserable depression. This is not so with her, however. She gets up every morning forcing a smile to her lips and is thankful for another day. She is also insistent that she help with the daily chores of the clan, wishing to pay her due for the care and home. She never goes without aid or an inconspicuous watchful eye, but the clan humors her need to move and work. For this she is thankful. One day she knows she will be healthy again and she looks forward to it, but until that day she will not let the sickness get the better of her.

Note: Her condition being that her body was turned into true crystal; unlike the genetic trait that gives some dragons the appearance of crystal skin she was actually turning into crystal.

0HmSgI3.png Journal Excerpt.
2017 Month of Water, Day 26

My hand is trembling as I write this page. The joints are wracked with agony today. Damn sickness! For so long now this ailment, this pain, has tried to drag me down and it's getting to the point its winning. As much as it disgusts me to admit, I'm not sure I can tolerate much more of this. Already I'm sleeping longer, needing to rest more just to stay off the ache in my bones. I missed the herbalists this morning because of it. That is why I am here doodling in this blasted journal instead of out doing something useful!

But I digress. Bemoaning about my condition will do nothing for it, other than make me focus entirely on it.

Orian has encouraged this journal writing in the hopes it will help stir my memory, which is still as blank as the day I came too. To be honest, this is my first attempt at this therapy. The lack of any sort of past causes a dreadful amount of sorrow to choke my throat and so the reminder does my mental state no good. Unfortunately, I have little else to do at the moment, so here I am scribbling in a confounded book.

Orian suggested that I start with my oldest memory and work from there. There is not much in that memory to be truthful. It consists of waking on the edge of a lake consumed by a dreadful agony and lungs heavy with water. Those first few moments of trying to move and breathe again were horrifically painful. Honestly, I’m still surprised I survived the initial spasms to clear my lungs. The agony of that ordeal makes me ill to my stomach even now.

Afterward, I lay there, unable to move, for what seemed like days. To add insult to injury, the small beasts would bleed from the woods to steal away what few scraps of clothing I wore or pick at my hardened flesh. All I could do was lay there, unable to lift even a single note of protest as I was eaten alive. By the time Zim found me I was almost picked clean. There are still hunks of my crystallized body that are struggling to heal from all those nibbles.

The healers miraculously brought me back from the brink of the abyss, though sometimes I wonder if that was for the best. The thought causes the bile of guilt and sorrow to choke me, but sometimes I cannot help but to wonder if it would have been easier for everyone if I had just expired. There are times I truly wish I had of, but so far I’ve reminded myself that there is hope; I will not give up on that or my faith in the healers.
