Canthuion is the son of Mamaqtuq, the son of Mauve, the son of Zedan, the son of Elijah; his mother, Kvara, is the daughter of Isaroq, the daughter of Anaana, the daughter of Ebris. All sixteen of his great-great-grandparents are first-generation dragons; in other words he is a 'pure' fifth-gen dragon. His name comes from the Sindarin words "canthui", "fourth", and "ion", "son of"; that is to say, he is the Son of Fourth, and in two ways: his mother's name means "fourth" in Esperanto, and also his parents are both fourth-gen dragons.

His brothers Brithilwi and Hrairoo have gone to serve the Lightweaver; his sister Lebthil has left for a Water clan looking for strikingly-unusually-colored dragons. Canthuion plans to remain with the Solar Solar, however. Like his mother, he's not particularly combat-inclined, but where she's a healer, his aptitude is more for wards and lair defense. He's studying camouflage with Dmitry, but isn't particularly good at the non-magical aspects of it.

His daughter Sixta is staying with the clan - the clan gestalt immediately recognized her as the Representative of the Founders for her generation - but his other children have left. He keeps in touch with Yeoseot, who's gone to an Earth clan to help maintain its wards.

When Galore gifted the Solar Solar with two Vials of Horizontal Sight, Canthuion used one. He finds the change in his visual acuity very helpful with non-magical camouflage and alertness, and extremely helpful with placing wards.
