Being so close to the Gatekeeper, Misery is bathed in the macabre and gothic. The Shade pulls at her ears, whispering promises of Elysium should she give in and join her foremothers. For far too long, she shied from her legacy; from the very blood in her. However, the years only taught her escape was impossible. Misery isn't quite ready to join the entourage at the Gate. | ____________________ |

Instead, her grandmother has granted her purpose whilst she still roams the mortal realm; she has subsumed leadership of the Hearth, but she allows Lorenda to belive she's in charge, so she can shelter others of Naomi blood. Misery is highly, highly respected by her kin as she sees to and ensures the every fulfilment of their needs, treating them as if they were her own children. Though she sees Lorenda as lesser than her and the kin she shelters in the Hearth, and a general personality clash, she respects Lorenda's dedication to her cause. Thus, Misery is quite content to aid Lorenda and Onyx in their deliverance of worship to the Gatekeeper, and Mather alike. |

Shade-touched, Accursed
It hurts.
The Shade burns like fire in her veins, trying to take control, trying to turn her into a vessel for the nightmare that has threatened the world for years beyond imagining. It is your birthright. It is promised. The lure of family, beckoning across countless miles and years. She must take her place beside her grandmother and great-grandmother as a Gatekeeper. There is no other way. Please, let me sleep. I'm so tired of the pain. She makes her solitary lair in a cave at the edge of their domain, close enough to scavenge their scraps to keep herself alive but not so close as to distress the mind-reader more than is necessary. She doesn't want enemies. She doesn't want to let the darkness take over, to wash clean the lives in the valley and have to move, to start again. To remember the screams and the tears. She keeps to the shadows, soaking her claws in little pools of cool, dark water to take the edge off the pain. The darkness within her coils, writhing on her scales, coaxing with evil little promises. The Shade won't let her end her own life. It offers an end to the agony if she'll only give in, but she's given in before. Never again. If only it didn't hurt so much.
