Alter-Keeper & Coli Fighter

We are the Alter-Keepers of Scorched Rock. Chosen for our likeness to the lava floes and fissures bubbling up with magma, can there be no better Alter-Keepers than a wildclaw and a coatl?

A wildclaw, who bears strong resemblance to The One Born of Fire, our Lady Flamecaller, and a coatl, who must always answer that primal call to return home to the Ashfall Wastes. Our connection to fire and these scorched lands are genetic as well as spiritual.

Once accepting of one's role as Alter-Keeper, it becomes their duty to clean the guardian-sized alters inside the Blackmouth Cavern, which leads straight into the heart of a volcano. Blackmouth lives up to it's name, with wicked looking stalactites and stalagmites that jut from the cavern's interior like teeth, acrid fumes and a hellish glow can give any dragon of any size the impression of having stepped into the mouth of a colossus.

In addition to it's maintenance and upkeep, the Alter-Keepers are charged with protecting the shrines from defacing, intruders (thus are adept at fighting), and any damage the local wildlife and weather may cause to the alters. They guard it jealously, and with an efficiency that lends itself to seriousness. Highly superstitious, those dragons who choose to visit the alters for spiritual reasons will be regarded with the utmost scrutiny and may even be denied access if something is deemed wrong.

Alter-Keepers, though not spiritually connected like some of the other dragons on the island, are still called to consult should things prove strange or troublesome on Scorched Rock, an example being the recent appearance of a spectral deity of war, known simply as Ku.

No other species can assume the role of Alter-Keeper.

Brooding. Philosophical.
Superstitious and with much faith in the dragon deities, he is coming to terms with being of a Wind Flight origins and living within a Clan on an isolated island that is so heavily steeped in Fire Flight lore.

Hailing from the Twisting Crescendo, Mauna did not initially recognize his calling until he had a dream of a land of smoke and fire, of twisting flames and a great furnace belching black fumes into the sky. Shortly after this dream, Mauna was plucked from his home and began his training as an Alter-Keeper; it was difficult for him to befriend Kilauea, as bigoted and haughty as she is/was, but his patience and seriousness towards their roles eventually won her over.

Now fully entrenched in his role as an Alter-Keeper, just when he begins to get settled, his destiny expands before his very eyes into the role of a workshop delver. This doesn't shock him as much as he thought, with his natural gift for fighting, it makes sense that the young warriors would come to him and ask that he venture into the farthest, most dangerous depths of neighboring domains to fight what terrors lurk there. Leaving Kilauea to do much of the work while he's busy fighting mechanical beasts causes a pretty strong sense of guilt, and there's a bit of friction between them that wasn't there before.

Despite efforts to reassure her, Kilauea seems to hold on to a fear that he's going to find life as a fighter more to his liking than his current duties. He will try to heal any wounded feelings she has, though this new role will keep him much much busier than he'd like.
