Alter-Keeper & Master of Ceremonies

We are the Alter-Keepers of Scorched Rock. Chosen for our likeness to the lava floes and fissures bubbling up with magma, can there be no better Alter-Keepers than a wildclaw and a coatl?

A wildclaw, who bears strong resemblance to The One Born of Fire, our Lady Flamecaller, and a coatl, who must always answer that primal call to return home to the Ashfall Wastes. Our connection to fire and these scorched lands are genetic as well as spiritual.

Once accepting of one's role as Alter-Keeper, it becomes their duty to clean the guardian-sized alters inside the Blackmouth Cavern, which leads straight into the heart of a volcano. Blackmouth lives up to it's name, with wicked looking stalactites and stalagmites that jut from the cavern's interior like teeth, acrid fumes and a hellish glow can give any dragon of any size the impression of having stepped into the mouth of a colossus.

In addition to it's maintenance and upkeep, the Alter-Keepers are charged with protecting the shrines from defacing, intruders (thus are adept at fighting), and any damage the local wildlife and weather may cause to the alters. They guard it jealously, and with an efficiency that lends itself to over-seriousness. Highly superstitious, those dragons who choose to visit the alters for spiritual reasons will be regarded with the utmost scrutiny and may even be denied access if something is deemed wrong.

Alter-Keepers, though not spiritually connected like some of the other dragons on the island, are still called to consult should things prove strange or troublesome on Scorched Rock, an example being the recent appearance of a spectral deity of war, known simply as Ku.

No other species can assume the role of Alter-Keeper.

Haughty, intelligent and sharp of wit.
Bigoted and quick to outcast any creature that does not comply with the rules and superstitions of the island.

A daughter of fire, well-bred and well-versed in the laws of the Clan and the Island itself. Remains aloof to the other dragons apart from her mate, Mauna, and concentrates on her unique role and her offspring to ensure both are maintained with her best efforts. In addition to being an Alter-Keeper, Kilauea is also one of the dragons in charge with conducting funerals; she both prepares the bodies and the prayers to be said at the time of incineration. It is in these moments that Kilauea's true personality comes bubbling up like magma from a fissure; not nearly as aggressively antisocial and extremely small-minded as she'd like you to believe, her prayers are always beautifully written and delivered with sincerity.

Many suspect she likes to keep up appearances because of her family's long-standing tradition as Alter-Keepers, and the pressures that comes with this. But who better to endure massive amounts of pressure than a dragon that lives, works, and will die inside a volcano?
