✤ ✤ ✤

An artist at heart, Paige was forced to stop his artistic career early because of monetary concerns. His family left a rather large debt for him to pay off, and his paintings were never popular enough to pay the bills.

His lovable personality was able to get him a job in a private dragoness-only school, where he worked as a history teacher.

Paige never had enough treasure to go to expensive places, but he enjoyed going out for walks in the park and liked to sketch the scenery.

It was on one of his evenings out that he met Lily. The two immediately fell in love and started writing their history together. Lily, being a wealthy engineer, was able to pay off Paige’s debt and he felt extremely grateful towards her.

Their love only grew with time and doubled when they had their first clutch. Paige was completely enamored and was certain that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

Now that he wasn’t in debt anymore, Paige was able to spend time making art. He made countless paintings of landscapes and original pieces that earned him prizes that now sit on his shelf. But the paintings Paige loves the most are the ones he made of Lily. There is a special place in his workshop dedicated especially to Lily. Portraits and scenes featuring the dragoness he loves the most.

But when his hatchlings died, Paige felt his love for art dwindle. He wanted to keep pursuing art, but his heavy heart didn’t allow him to. And when he sought Lily for comfort, she was distant, and seemed to not care for him.

This broke Paige’s already wounded heart and, knowing that locking himself in a room would only make his situation worse, decided to abandon his workshop and go back to taking walks in the park. Paige spent hours walking with no destination, sometimes going out in the morning and only returning late at night.

Because of this, sometimes Paige would zone out and come back to the real world only to find himself in unexplored ruins. This reminded him of his almost-forgotten interest in history, and he’d now visit the ruins almost every day, spending hours sketching the landscape and trying to decipher old writings. But it didn’t matter how much he enjoyed the scenery, he still longed for Lily’s presence, but he couldn’t get her off their house.

There was a hole in their hearts made by the absence of their hatchlings, and Paige wondered what he could do to fix that—or if there even was something he was able to do at all.

In one of his many visits to the ruins, Paige met Noah. A confused spiral that seemed out of this world. Paige felt his paternal instincts kick in and so, he brought Noah home with him. He thought Lily would be happy with a new adoptive son in their home, but he was extremely wrong.

Lily’s expressionless face turned into one of anger. “How dare you try to replace our hatchlings!” “Can’t you see he has magic inside of him?” “He’ll die without proper care! Do you think we can afford that?” “What if the Lightseekers find him? What will be of us?” are some of the things Paige heard that day.

But the shaking spiral looked at him with so much wonder. He wouldn’t be able to survive on his own. Paige told Lily he’d search for a way to deal with the magic inside of him, and that it was okay if Lily didn’t want him, because he’d be his son from then on.

Paige still loves Lily unconditionally, and she’ll always be the love of his life, but he can’t help but feel dejected around her. He can feel them growing distant with each passing day. And when he rocks Noah to sleep, he wonders if he made the right decision.
