B I O G R A P H Y

Out of the three brothers, Athan is the most difficult due to his headstrong ways and his need to make his place in the world, but thanks to Isaak, he never forgot to laugh, even when he was busy spending most of his time training. He never thought about surpassing his older brother in skill, but he was adamant to become as good a warrior as Isaak. Just like the older male, he wanted to protect his brothers, and one day he was given his chance to show his skills.

The war began, and he did not hesitate to fly headlong into battle. The violence and bloodshed affected him mentally, but it was seeing the broken body of Erasmus that caused him to lose part of himself. He became ruthless, striking down the enemy one after another. He survived the war, but not without injury; a bone in his right wing was shattered and never healed correctly, resulting in that wing becoming a dead weight and adding a permanent limp to his walk.

When the war ended, he tried to have the same attitude as the other survivors, but as the weeks went by he was unable to take the pain in his heart, so he pushed memories and emotions aside. Eventually, he decided he could not stay with the others so he left. Every so often he would return to the place that part of him still considered home, but each visit grew shorter than the last, and he long since stopped speaking during these visits. He can tell that his half dead state breaks Isaak's heart, but that is not enough to pull him back to the living, although a part of him -a part that is buried- does hope that one day he will be back to his old self.

_It's Over_

____Athan hobbled along the area below the battlefield. After breaking his wing, he fell from the sky and lost consciousness, with no idea if anyone else survived. The sound of fighting was long gone, and looking up showed him that no one was around, leaving the sky empty and the ground covered with bodies of friend and foe alike.

Blood dripped from the hole in his chest. The injury was caused by being impaled on a sharp rock after falling. Other injuries included a broken bone in his wing and shredded flesh on his hands since he tried to get a grip on the cliff wall while falling. His physical injuries were nothing compared to the wounds that could not be seen, though. The bodies that surrounded him drove fear into his heart. Being the only survivor would be too much to bear.

The minutes passed, and he grew weaker with every step. He did not want to rest before he found out if he was alone, so he forced himself to continue, but soon he felt his legs give out from under him. As he was falling, he saw Isaak running towards him, and some of the fear in his heart fled.

_We Failed_

____A hand running through his hair woke Athan, and he opened his eyes to see Isaak sitting next to him, his older brother mostly healed from the wounds he received. "Where is it?" He had been wanting to hold one of Erasmus's antlers ever since the war ended. Touching an antler told a fellow peryton the last emotions the antler's owner felt.

Isaak let out a small sigh. "I'll go get it."

Athan watched his brother leave the room. It had been a week since the last manticore had been struck down, but his injuries were slow to heal due to the extent of them. The hole in his chest was nearly closed and was healing well, but the future of his shattered wing was unknown.

Hearing Isaak come back in, he reached out a hand and took the antler, his features twisting into a look of pain while he relived the feelings his younger brother felt during the last moments of his life. "He was so scared. We should have been there for him." Tears running down his face, he handed the antler back to Isaak then turned his head away.
