Royal Pillar Guard
The responsibility of a Royal Pillar Guard surely is high, but as no one knows exactly what their actual purpose is - besides caring for Earthshaker and the guarding of Dragonhome -, no one can fully understand to what degree they actually are needed, often leading to misunderstandings and underestimation. Ares was quick to grasp that idea and the following consequences: Of course they would prefer to live separated from the other Dragons of Dragonhome. Of course they would rather not have anyone know about them. They needed to guard what rightfully was their property as Earth dragons and needed to protect the Earthshaker. Ares too knew this was his responsibility from the start and has been serving the Pillar well since arriving there - even though not physically but more in a spiritual way, if one wants to express it like this. He is a Seer. A very good one in that matter. He gets visions of important future events concerning Sornieth and the destiny of dragonkind and the deities. Until now every single one of his visions has turned out to become true, minor ones as well as major visions. He also gets more specific visions about a dragon when they are in physical contact to each other - espescially, when he doesn't know the specific dragon yet. Fortunately, he can control it a bit more with dragons and friends he has, as visions often happen to come with a heavy migraine or other side effects. Plus, the Skydancer cannot control the time the visions occur and this is often a big obstacle during council meetings of the Pillar Guards. Knowing too much of your future is never a good thing. There is no easy way to explain how Ares joined the Royal Pillar Guards in Dragonhome because it was exactly that: Not easy. He never met his parents and he only remembers a few things about his brother Hermes - specifically how they looked alike and how close they had been before the experiments took place. He doesn't, however, remember any of the experiments in detail though - there had been a lot of pain, lightning and doctors though. It's a surprise he remembers anything about it anyway: After they were finished working on him, they dropped him somewhere in the middle of the Shattered Plain, just to make sure he was either found by the Beastclans, a bunch of weird dragons or would die alone there due to the lack of food. He was also way to young to remember all the things that happened to him during his time in the laboratory and the few things he remembered where soon driven out due to fear and the worries of not being able to survive a day longer. Luckily, he soon was found by Pyrope, who carried him into safety high up at the Pillar of the World, where other mighty, wise and impressing dragons lived. From then on, Ares recovered pretty fast - also thanks to the magic surrounding him there. The magic also was responsible for a change in his scale pattern, leading to him looking more similar to the other dragons guarding the Earthshaker. He was eager to learn, but as soon as he got his first vision of the future, the other dragons began to mistrust him - after all, nobody knew if his ability was due to the experiments done to him or if it was naturally inherited from his parents. They weren't able to sense if there was more behind his visions or even other mutations that would lead to anything bad happening. Still, Ares did everything he could to prove them he was trustworthy and studied even harder - predicting future events that could be taken care of, even though there was no possibilty to stop them from happening. He was again met with a lot of criticism after predicting the birth of Phoenix, who would be very important in the future of Dragonhome and thus had to be stolen from their parents right after hatching. Needless to say, Ares developed very strong feeling about this dragon very soon and became very protective of them, not wanting them to get hurt by anything ever. Until today, the both of them are connected by a very strong bond and this will probably not change anytime in the future - even though Ares is not too fond of the idea of staying at the Cairnstone Rest with Ladon's clan for a long amount of time, but he knows it's the best way to get Phoenix accustomed to his strong emotional abilities. Another good thing about the different circumstances is, that he is now able to show another side of him that actually enjoys fun stuff like flying around, card games and cheating in the games.
