Biography

Once, I believed that life was nothing more than an unending cycle of pain. For one mistake... one falter in judgement, I was condemned to be trapped inside this prison. Forced to obey whoever called me out of the crystal.

I was forced to serve, to do whatever they would want of me... unable to die... unable to disobey no matter what was asked. It was terrible, and people knew I had to listen, so they abused me.

So when I came out of the crystal again, I was expecting to be directed as always... but I was met with a strange man. Large, muscular and covered in unending scars. He looked down at me in shock, holding the crystal in his hand as if he hadn't known what it was.

And what did this strange and quiet shark-shifter do?

He asked me if I wanted a drink, and sauntered off.

...

I was thoroughly confused, to say the least. Granted, I'm not the largest of men- and so I was a bit intimidated by his large size, but also... a bit thrilled. I do love strong men.

But I was used to cruelty, to being treated like trash. I was meek and quiet, though my love of books always brought me to life again. He seemed to crave seeing me happy... and he took care of me like no one ever had before.

As a water elemental, my kind are very emotional. Even our forms carry our emotion, the currents our bodies are made of traveling fast when we're happy or excited, or slowing as he grow depressed or sad. It is possible for my kind to actually die of sorrow- our currents slowing so much that we just dissipate into the water around us.

Logan helped me feel happy again... he helped me feel free.

But like all things, good times come to an end. I was found by my ex-lover, a killer whale who had betrayed me and turned heartless over time. He was part of a band who were seeking Atlantis, the lost city that had just risen from its watery grave. This was where I was from, and to break my curse, I had to return the crystal I had stolen... the same one that my soul was bound to.

Logan brought me on his ship, and we sped our way to the city, hoping to beat the rufians that had sought to plunder Atlantis of its riches. Eventually we succeeded, but... were met with an interesting obstacle.

See, Atlantis was still guarded by its ever-present protector. A Celestial of massive proportions who was Imprinted to the city itself- bound to serve it and protect it forever. The Kraken. He was a giant beast, looking much like a large sea dragon, and able to shoot beams of pure energy that could destroy anything unlucky enough to be in its path. This was what we had to fight against... this was what we had to somehow get past.

But we managed to slip by him, after Logan used himself as bait to guide him away. I shifted to my water form and slipped between the broken crystals of the city's walls, and was inside. Logan was able to join me after losing the Kraken, and we made our way to the chamber.

I was a bit scared, to be honest. I had gotten close to Logan along this journey, and I had never met someone who respected me like he did. Would he want me to leave once I was free of the curse? Would he be done with an excitable and weak little elemental like me?

So with a bit of reluctance, I set the crystal back in its place, and oh how it BURNED. I screamed with the feeling of the curse being ripped from me, and felt an answering roar rattle the room around us.

I was still recovering when a massive head broke in through the ceiling, the Kraken grabbing Logan and tossing him off into the sea in the distance. Then he turned back toward me, and I was admittedly terrified. I wasn't strong, I couldn't fight, and even if I could, this was the freaking kraken! What chance did I have?!

And yet, it set its snout against me and... purred.

Okay, round 2 of being confused as hell.

While I blinked and tried to make my heart stop trying to beat its way out of my chest, I came to a conclusion. The kraken was meant to protect the city... and I had been trapped and bound to a part of the city... so the kraken was protecting... me.

Had it thought that Logan had hurt me? Oh, on the contrary, he had helped me more than anyone else had.

But now he was in danger- the others were still outside, with gunfire sounding. Was he being shot at? Was he dead? Was he hurt?

It was time for this little guy to take a big chance, and to kick some butt.

I was a bit nervous as I climbed onto the kraken's massive head, sitting behind its fins along its jaws as it turned back toward the ocean. Directing such a massive creature was quite empowering, and he seemed to be enjoying to be able to show off as well.

After quite a one sided battle, the Kraken destroyed the boat and most of the inhabitants it had been carrying, saving Logan so that he escaped with only a few more scars to add to his collection.

But I was a free man! I could do whatever I wanted- and I wanted to stay with this hunky shark shifter whose quiet strength I had gotten quite accustomed to.

but there was one last hurdle along our road to happiness... as we started back for the island and got situated back in his home, I was shopping at the local market when I was grabbed... and who would it be, but my ex-lover... who was seeking revenge for his failed mission to retake Atlantis for himself.

I took a good beating- only this time I didn't have the ability to heal within the crystal. Once he was done, I dragged myself back home and was too embarrassed by how weak I was to show Logan right away. He eventually found out though, and my shark went out on the hunt- and he was hungry for killer whale.

When he came back, he seemed grimly satisfied, and I never did see my ex again. I'm not sure what Logan did, but I assume it was something rather... permanent.

After Atlantis was repopulated, it came to the attention of everyone that I had once been one of the archivists for the city... and though I admittedly was hesitant to live in the same realm as the Celestial kind who had once cursed me, I did want to see my books again.

So I took the job, and Logan was able to research the many ruins of the city with its ancient boats and lost sciences, to make new technology and experiment with his own naval talents. We lived on his boat, out in the ocean outside the city, peaceful and never wanting for anything except each other's company.

I am Gaven, water elemental and librarian of the city of Atlantis. I am mate of the shark shifter Logan, and a great collector of all knowledge. I once thought life was nothing but pain... but now I know that there is great joy in life... if you fight for it.
