As a rightful king, Cordan is very proud of who he is, and would do anything to gain more power, popularity, and riches, including betraying others. He typically never gets close with most people, or instead lies about himself, making it seem like he's pouring his heart out to another, but in actuality he's plotting a way to use them to his advantage.

He's deceitful in every way, from cheating at card games, to lying to the face of the public. Many say the only time a real emotion came out of him was when one of his adoptive fathers passed, leaving him and his other father stricken with grief. Though, there are some that believe that his sadness was just a mask, and he was plotting something darker. It's always difficult to see Cordan's true intentions, as his face is always in a playful smile, smooth voice cooling all tensions in a room.

When he doesn't get his way, however, the young king will stop at nothing to obtain it. His impulsively brutal side is not usually shown to the public, and those that do witness it are usually in the military. He is a very ambitious king, and doesn't mind tearing through flesh and bone to get what he wants.

Cordan doesn't know much of his past before he was deemed a prince, only remembering faint memories from a childhood he never had. He was only about one or two years old when the king and his husband picked him up from the woolen cradle outside their kingdom walls, so much of his life before then is a blur. The child was noticeably different from the other residents of the kingdom; skin more tan and smooth, face defining sharply as he aged, and eyes a sharp crimson, easily passed off as a concentrated brown by those who got a glimpse of him.

His father's cherished their new child, scooping him right out of the guards arms who found him outside the front gate. They looked down at the bundled, crying baby with warm smiles. It was like someone knew they had been looking to adopt only the night before, and had been searching for the perfect child, and dropped one right into their welcoming arms. It had to have been a sign, they thought, and took the baby in. His name was being decided on for the next week over, the king and his husband wondering whether to name him after family, a great warrior, or a god of some sorts. The middle name was already decided, named after the first ruler of the kingdom, and it was tradition to deem the middle name upon the next heir.

Though the first name of their new son was still up in the air, but the public was fully supportive of any name they chose for their baby, bringing in flowers, cribs, clothes, and freshly made food for the new family. During one of the exchanges was when the baby spoke for the first time since his arrival, though it sounded mostly like a mumble of baby sounds, the king swore he heard him say "Cordan", or something similar to that. After a little bit of playful arguments, the husbands decided that was their new child's name; Cordan Monty Cadfael.

Cordan grew into the name, filling the boots that "battle prince" held out for him. As soon as he could walk he would wander into the armoury, exploring the racks and walls of swords and hammers, looking at his curved reflection in polished shields and armour. One of his fathers-- who he discovered was named 'Taylor'-- was more worrisome than his husband Braithe, and constantly would pull their eager son away from the royal guard. Braithe believed it was good for his son to be interested in fighting at such a young age, as it could spark the idea for him to become a knight later in life, but Taylor deemed it too dangerous in the armoury, and instead carried their son through the large gardens of Drearus, making sure to introduce him to those who worked and walked through there. They wanted their son to grow up to be well knowledge in more than just basic curriculum, and take after their father in that area.

Luckily for both of them, Cordan is both an excellent fighter and a scholar, able to take down opponents with ease in practice matches on the training grounds, and never failing to know the answer to any question thrown at him by his parents. He was their pride and joy, and even everyone in the kingdom loved him.

It's unknown when his desire for power first arose, but some think it was when the first war in his lifetime hit his peaceful kingdom, an army coming right up to their front gates as they burned forests and grasslands along the way. Cordan was only a teenager then, but he understood all of what the leader of the army said when his father got them to talk in the great hall.

"We want more land, more food, more country for our people," they said, taking a sip out of their glass, "Our rules were corrupt and ignorant-- they only cared about themselves, bathing in riches and fine food..." The discussion went on for quite some time, Braithe trying to offer some way to help besides giving up their kingdom to the attackers, whose story seemed less and less plausible as they continued, and Cordan saw right through their facade. He didn't wait another moment as soon as he realized, and drew his blade right then.

He killed them. Right in front of his parents. In front of everyone. The intelligent, strong prince had killed someone at the dinner table. Everyone stepped back, more in shock than in fear, as he put his blade away. The warm blood splattered onto his cheek was wiped off quickly by Taylor, who was going on about something at lightning speed, servants pushing them both out of the room as the king and guards tried to handle the rest of the situation. Cordan surely started the war, many say, as the attacking kingdom didn't accept the lie that their ruler had drawn first. There was outrage, people tried to climb the walls when the doors were closed, tried burning anything they could.

Cordan had started a war. It was a quick one, with very few dead on their side, and thousands on the other.
But he had started it. Something in the history books, a mark in time.

He didn't know he had that much power.

Tinuvial was the future-seeing king that took in Cordan after he left his home kingdom later in life, shortly after his father died. It is unknown why they took him in, considering he is very untrustworthy and deceitful, but they seem to be close acquaintances. Cordan is constantly flirting with the king to avoid them finding out what exactly happened in the past, hoping to use it as a distraction to get away with things. Tinu is trying to teach Cordan all the things he never learned from his fathers, and Cordan doesn't want to admit it, but he is trying to become a better person.
