  A Necromancer's Diary

Entry 1:

It is with great excitement that I can share with you, my beloved and sacred Diary, that my fellow Coven Members have stumbled upon something great! It was just 3 days ago that the dragons of the Grove alerted us to this wonderful sight! I have been dutifully devoted to this research! What research, you might ask? Well, I am not allowed to say! We have been forbade from speaking aloud about this, lest the Council take ear. But here is what happened:

Hecate, Spirit, Florence, and myself were brought to a wood just outside Mendiosus' borders. There, we were led off into a dense brush. The air there was thick with a peculiar black smog; so thick it seemed to stick to our scales the further into the thicket we went. It was almost too much, but on we pushed. And, oh, my dear Diary, that it when I saw It! That wonderful sight. I immediately had a scribe carve the sight into stone so I dare not forget the image. We swiftly took our treasures and ventured back home to study. Now we are all caught up, and back to researching I go.

Until next time.

Entry 2:

Oh my, there is much to learn in these halls here today, my Sacred. I believe the relics the Coven and I found are just a touch out of our intelligence. It has now been a fortnight since we have returned from the clearing and it feels as though we have many more questions than answers. It is becoming quite frustrating to say the least.

Hecate hasn't slept in days; she keeps leaving me vials upon vials of various bone shards floating in strange concoctions. I believe she thinks it will aide me in my communications with the spirits, but I am growing more and more unsure by the day. Spirit is acting rather quiet himself. He spends all day shuffling his deck of cards; I do not believe I have seen him leave the Podium's hall at all. And Florence, my dear Florence. He is acting the most out of sorts. He keeps going back to the brush where we found... Whatever this is. His mind is riddled, just like the rest of us.

I need to sleep now, my Diary, for I too have not been able to sleep as of late.

Entry 3:

The Spirits have been rather loud as of late; they warn us to be careful. Ominous, yes, but I still need to keep researching. I can assuredly say that what we found are remains of some sort, good news! I'm sure I will have no problems with reading these relics now! As I always say: the bones never lie!

Entry 4:

I fear. I fear we have made a grave mistake. The Spirits howl of our demise. We may have gone a bit too far. I shall have to tell Florence of this in the morning. That is, if he returns from the Wood. He has been disappearing in the dead of night for the past few days and staying out long after the stars stop twinkling. Oh, my Dear, please come home safe.

Entry 5:

Dear Dragon, if you are reading this. The relics are so far beyond what we thought they were. What have we done. What have we done?

Mendoisus is hurrying to gather and move, but I fear not all of us will make it back out of here. That thick smog has followed back home with some very unwelcomed visitors. They take camp in that dire thicket, spreading around the rest of the Grove. I fear they may be closing in on us.

If you are reading this. Run.

* the rest of the journal is tattered and destroyed. any pages that are left are covered in an inky, black ooze, obscuring the writing underneath *
