Access to the Luminaries is granted through one path only: the bridge between the Pyrrhic Vale and the keep's island. One cannot fly to the keep without the blessing of a Justice to carry them through the barrier, and the waters surrounding the island turn back any body not deemed welcome in their currents. Only the bridge allows passage.
Or, rather, only Brista does.
As Keeper of the Bridge, Brista is the only force that lies between the Luminaries and the outside world. In most cases, a single dragon would not possess enough power to fill such a role. What of invasions, attacks by gathered forces?
That is no matter. The bridge itself sees to those troubles.
Brista built the bridge herself, brick by brick, scavenging stone from the wake of the Beast's rampage. She knows it better than anyone, has shaped it into the Luminaries' lifeline to the world beyond. And in turn, the bridge protects her. Those with hostile intent are often bucked from the bridge long before reaching its Keeper, and from there, the waters below push them back to the shore from whence they came. In exchange for this mysterious protection, Brista tends to the bridge like it is a living creature, keeping it clean and well-fortified in spite of the elements.
Her core duty, though, is to confront those who manage to reach her despite the bridge's protective nature. It is not impossible for malicious actors to cross the bridge so long as they mask their purpose well. But deceiving Brista is no easy task, and as long as she searches for the truth, she is bound to find it.
It is part of her oath to the Order Radiant: "I shall not abide by untruths in the Mother's name." Each visitor wishing entrance to the keep must swear upon the Lightweaver that their purpose is not meant to bring any harm to the Luminaries, and as the words leave their mouth, Brista can feel the truth of them.
Or the lack thereof.
It's an uncanny magic, but she is certain it is a blessing from the Lightweaver herself. What other higher power seeks the truth so ardently? Certainly not the Shadowbinder, busy as she is with her tricks, nor the Stormcatcher, lord of efficiency above all else. No, it must be the Lightweaver's gift unto her, a reward for her faithful service, a tool to better bring light to the lost.
Each day, at the center of the bridge, Brista reaffirms her oath. None shall pass under false pretenses, and Lightweaver have mercy on those who dare all the same.
