To Light the Way
The sun shines bright, but all days end
Darkness falls, and night begins
Fear not the night; be brave, my friend
The sun always comes back again

The sun always comes back again

It was a drab, overcast afternoon when Lumos found the hatchling. He found her alone, trembling among smashed shells and scattered bones. She was small, thin, and so terribly afraid. The warm wind whipped around them, and Lumos stared at her with quiet concern. She gazed back at him with wide, frightened eyes. He saw resignation there. Despair. Some predator had taken the nest. Maybe her parents, too. In her short life, she’d only known fear. So he reached out to her. “There, there,” he whispered. He coiled his warm body around hers and he gently held her. He spoke soft words to her, words of encouragement. The gray clouds would pass, he promised. There would be warmth, joy, and love. Just hold on. Just hold on. Such a small gesture for Lumos. Such a big difference for a lost little hatchling. |
"Let me be the light that guides you home."
Bio by Sirrush88
The lovely shine of the Lightweaver had always shined down on Lumos from the very moment he’d hatched, an only child to his adoring parents who were protective of him from the start. He never could stray too far from the Sunbeam Ruins and especially not into the Tangled Woods, but he never tried too hard to do so either. Lumos was more adamant about keeping track of his studies in the Mirrorlight Promenade, learning the laws of the world around him and how to keep a fair judgement in any given situation in order to serve others properly. Many in his home clan spoke highly of him for being such an intelligent and insightful young spiral, but while Lumos was comfortable at home he wished to bring everything he’d learned to other clans where he might truly be needed.
His parents were understandably reluctant to let go of their one child, but they eventually agreed on the condition that he would learn to protect himself and others with more than just intellect before he’d leave home for good. He strengthened his light magic enough to be a real threat, but also took to using swords and knives if he needed something sharper than his own teeth and claws to get through a fight alive. When his parents were satisfied with the results of his training, Lumos was finally given the chance to leave his home if he so wished to do so. He placed a blindfold over his eyes so that outside of his clan he would have blind, but clear judgement without distractions that went along with sight.
Despite choosing to remain blind to the world Lumos’ other senses sharpened with the loss of one, allowing him to sense the world around him almost the same way he would have had he held onto his sight. But he did not regret leaving it behind, as while he traveled across Sornieth his skills in judging truth and lies proved to be his most valuable asset everywhere he went. Lives were saved because of him when he picked out who was deceiving, and while Lumos had been raised to be compassionate to all the guilty received no mercy nor kindness from him. While he was adored by many and his temporary homes gave him offers to stay he never accepted, he felt they didn’t truly need him as much as they thought they did.
He eventually stopped to visit a clan in the Southern Icefield, he’d traveled far from home and admittedly missed his family so much that part of him debated going back. But he felt that something was off about the clan he was living in, namely the fact that they seemed to be taking in influence from someone who hated Beastclans. Dragons snapped at eachother at random seemingly and while he could settle the disagreements some, he noticed that the problem was always on the dragon’s familiar or on the stance that they held towards Beastclans. This was when Lumos would meet the most stubborn dragon he’d ever have the displeasure of knowing, Shah.
Shah was old and his ideals reflected that fact about him perfectly in his aggressive hatred for Beastclan members, and though many told Lumos it was useless to argue with him the determined spiral tried anyway. But he proved to be the most difficult dragon to convince as he had his ways set in stone, he would not listen to reason if it meant that he was wrong and continued to convince his clanmates that he was right. Lumos however would not stand for this, and tried to bring in comfort and care in for the weak dragons who simply wanted to live in peace with their friends. His extreme need to protect and serve all dragons who needed him spread further than just those affected by Shah’s ways however; he took the time to see to the needs of lost hatchlings and confused dragons who had gotten lost in blizzards without knowing a way home.
It was while assisting these dragons in need of help that Lumos then decided that this clan would be his new home, he was always busy with work here for the innocent and the guilty after all. Shah had yet to stop being a thorn in his side that he would keep shoved out of the way as much as he could help it, and there would always be some who would come to him for advice or help with judging the right from wrong in their choices. It was true that there were still times in which he missed the familiar warmth of sunlight that he just couldn’t feel the same way on snow, but whether he’d realized it or not he’d made his decision to stay a long time ago. It was simple, this was where Lumos was needed and he refused to ever leave any dragon that he could serve with all the loyalty he could offer.
