ABOUTxxxxx❝Just doing the best I can, being someone I can't stand.❞
The smallest Tundra in Bogart's clan was born in the darkness of the Hewn City, and it is believed that it was both his deprivations both in his home and early life that resulted in his small size. His mother saw him as a burden, one to be quickly abandoned to his father's claws, and his father saw him as a poor sort of son to have, small and quiet and willing rather than Mieville and his maddened determination. Their family had lived at the edges of Bogart's awkwardly spread territory--better for his father's experiments--and so it was unknown to the clan members that would be willing to help the Tundra's predicament. |
|
Of course, what would they have done? The Tundra hatchling was nameless, the nest that had produced him unknown, and the Hewn City was full of screaming terrors.
It was only in rest that the little creature had a world of safety or care, dreams filled with things he only knew from scents and scratches in the damp stone walls. In his dreams came a strange bright creature, rather like himself but wingless and trunked, only a light frill down his back rather than a long handsome ruff. The creature was a Baku, and a kindly teacher who even gave him a name: Beautiful Dreamer. Dreamer, for short, since "Beautiful Dreamer" translated to a long and clumsy name in Drakine, less so in his dreams.
The Baku pressed him, encouraged him, until Dreamer finally came forth to Bogart, explaining his strange story. Of Mieville's injuries, of his mother, of the Baku who was so kind when he slept. Bogart did not punish Mieville, only took Dreamer and redirected his son, encouraging Dreamer's abilities and visions.
Like Marlowe, Dreamer now lives in a deep, safe vault, where he may smell and dream the safe, wonderful things that help so many others beyond himself.
