When Soot came to the Clan of the Onyx Hearth he spoke barely a word to anyone and was scarred beyond belief, not as much physically but psychologically. He did stand before Veiled, asked him to talk to him in private and told him his story.
When he was still a mere egg he was taken in by a clan mostly made out of Wildclaws and Skydancers and was raised by them. Without ever knowing his true parents he had several guardians above him as a grew, but never one he truly loved or felt loved by. Everyone around him did only show him a cold mindset and a rather brutal and ruthless behavior. He was raised to adapt to those mindsets and to learn the right of the strongest. He was meant to be a warrior at hearth and nothing else, always ready to kill anyone his elders pointed him at.
While they did their best to keep the Nocturne away from most visitors he did hear stories, about clan living a peaceful way of live. He understood, even if slowly, that the way he lived only to fight was not one he was looking out for. He tried to run away several times, earning himself beatings and other punishments, until he one day made it. He did not stop to run until he found himself in the territory of the Onyx Hearthed and when confronted by their scouts he asked to talk to Veiled.
While he tries to change his ways he is still one who would rather kill another dragon and ask questions later. If he feel he was wronged or tricked out of something he speaks with his claws rather then words. The thing he will probably never forget is his vow to obedience regarding the elders. While Veiled knows that much he does not ask Soot for anything that could trigger an aggressive response.
The change he makes is slow and the one dragon who he really leaves to be near himself at all times is Minerva, she is a mentor, friend and probably mate to the hurt Nocturne. He is not one for small talk with other dragons though, and at times he might lash out. The only ones to stop him then are Minerva, as his friend or mate, and Veiled, as his elder and leader of the clan.
His biggest fear is, that somewhere out there his old clan is still looking for him, trying to claim him back.
