An exciting and fun loving dragon, Grin is the strange pick for the leader of the Shroud Bramble clan. He is brave and strong to a tee with a powerful belief of the strength of the clan comes from the strength of the leader. With that in mind, he makes sure to be the leader he knows his clan needs. He doesn't back down from a fight and is quite the adept mage. He is also rather skilled in the art of flying and has no issues taking the fight to the sky if need be. He wasn't always in control of his magic however and there was a time when it threatened his entire clan.

Born as a Snapper, Grin hated his childhood strongly due to the fact that he was stuck to the ground. It didn't take him long to learn of scrolls that could adjust one's form and as soon as he was able, he set off to find one such scroll to give him the one thing he longed for, flight. He was not able to keep his plans secret for long however before he was found out. His parents scorned him for his dreams but he tuned them out and continued on till he got his goal. He traveled far and wide within the Starfall Isles to learn all he could about the scrolls he would need doing odd jobs along the way to gain treasure. This went on for the better part of a year for Grin till he was finally able to get the treasure and gems he needed. With the help of a friendly mage, he finally got his dream.

Becoming a pearlcatcher was more taxing on Grin then he realized it would have been, but he was happier than he had ever been before. With the help of other dragons in the Crystalspine Reaches, he learned how to fly and was excited to show his parents. Heading back home as quickly as his wings would carry him, he was rather excited to show his parents what he had achieved. He landed with a skid and almost crashed into his father but wasted little time showing off his new form and wings. He was proud after all. The reaction from his parents however was not the same pride Grin was feeling. It was the opposite in fact. He was shunned and cast out of the clan of his birth leaving him on his own. He flew away hurt and ashamed. He was so proud before that his parents deflating his hopes as they had came as more of a blow than he could have ever understood.

He flew as far as his wings would carry him leaving his old home behind as nothing but a memory. He found home in a few random lairs along the way to rest up but he never was allowed to stay long due to something that felt wrong to him. He settled down for, what he hoped was, the final time a small cave where he was welcomed by a smiling young Fae who was around his age. The two hit it off and even had a clutch together before disaster hit and he learned for himself why no other lair would welcome him. It seemed as if bad wishes and rude words weren't the only thing that his parents left him with. They left him with an absolutely devastating curse. It was in the night shortly after his son and daughter were born that the curse set in and the makeshift cave he and his mate called home was destroyed.

Grin came to after it was far too late. Pink flames littered the ground and walls of his home and sparks of power shot from his body. He couldn't move, he couldn't breathe, and worst of all, had no control over the magic that was taking hold. He watched helplessly as the pink flames spread further and further taking out his home. There was yet another surge of energy that felt as if his blood was replaced by lava and everything went black with the final image burned into his mind of his scared and helpless family. He woke again days later.

Looking around at the runes, he found something he never wanted to see. He remembered well what happened and hoped that it was all a nightmare. However he wasn't so lucky. In the torched remains of the nest he and his mate had shared was something that hurt worse than any flame, blade, or claw could have ever hoped to. In the middle of the rubble were two scorched and tiny pearls. He had hoped his beloved and their children had escaped but that was not the case it seemed. Curling around the nest, he cried out in anguish. Everything he knew and loved was gone and there was no way to get them back. He knew he couldn't stay in the Starfall Isles. Not after what had happened. He made a small grave for his now late family and took the tiny pearls of his children as a reminder to never use his magic. With a final sorrow filled expression, Grin took back to the sky flying away from the arcane world that was his life.

He traveled from flight to flight trying to find something that felt right. Every single flight he stopped at felt wrong to him and nothing was welcoming. He traveled as far as he could till he needed to rest and came upon the flight that he would call home in Shadow. He ran into a young Tundra who welcomed him almost excitedly. He didn't understand what she was going on about but she introduced herself and even gave him a room and a bed. He learned quick that she was in the huge lair completely alone.

The tundra introduced herself as Aerou and told Grin that she had foreseen his arrival and knew that he was what the “founders” had spoken of when they had whispered to her. He figured he had nothing else to loose and decided to just stick around. It was a roof without judgment after all. Aerou, despite his arguing, quickly told Grin he was to be the lair leader and lead the soon to grow clan to greatness. He had a feeling she was just trying to make him feel better, but he stuck around anyway.

Many years passed and he, with Aerou's help, gathered many dragons introducing them to the lair and everything seemed to be going rather well for him. He was finally happy again and the memories of that night had gotten easier to deal with. It seemed as if he could truly enjoy being himself again despite his cursed state. His magic would still flare up from time to time leaving the lair in quite the interesting state with all the brambles outside of it being petrified to a bright glowing pink. But Aerou only stated that it made the lair more welcoming somehow. Grin would finally get the magic cured in full after he met his second mate in Cupid who finally healed him of the curse and his heartache.
