Traveling Merchant
This dragon treks to the far corners of Sorneith, selling their goods and curiosities to any travelers they meet along the way.
Shusha was a vagabond. She had no home, no family, no companions, not even a name until she gave herself one. Surprisingly to some, she didn't mind this. She liked being alone, as it meant she had nothing tying her down. Being alone did become rather boring, however, so Shusha decided to indulge herself in the trading of curiosities and other goods. You find many strange things out in Sorenith's hinterlands, you know. Shusha was never in the business for the money, she simply wanted to travel the world and see who she could impress with her wares. Then one day, Shusha wasn't alone any longer. She had found another mirror, drifting along the Tsunami Flats in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Shusha nursed this stranger back to health - as she had nothing better to do - and learned of his tragic tale... Or rather, his lack of one. This mirror had lost his memory. He was unable to recall his name, where he lived, or what he was doing in the Tsunami Flats in the first place. After a short exchange, the two mirrors realized that they shared the same interest: a passion for travel. Shusha invited the stranger to come with her on her journeys, granted he didn't slow her down. The stranger eagerly accepted, happy to have found a companion. Years passed, and eventually the mirror gave himself a name. Gale. It just seemed right. While Gale learned the basics of trade, Shusha sought to learn about where Gale had came from. There must be records somewhere... Maybe the Arcane Flight would know something? The Light Flight perhaps? After much digging, Shusha had finally found it: an exploration guild on the coast of the Windswept Plateau called the Explorers of the Dawn. Years ago, a mirror by the name of Gale was reported missing during an expedition across the Water Flight's domain. Shusha wasn't sure how to tell Gale that she had found his true home, so she didn't. Instead, she treated it as another stop along their never-ending journey. Upon their arrival at the guild's home base, the merchants were welcomed with open arms. Many of the adventurers were eager to see what these travelers had for sale. As trades were made, Shusha grew more and more worried. Shouldn't Gale have remembered by now...? Was he even capable of remembering his past...? Suddenly, the crowd of dragons parted and made way for a quiet, purple Fae. Shusha recognized her as the clan's founder. The mirror began to introduce the Fae to her assistant, but she never got to say his name. "Gale!" The Fae's fins flared outwards in joy as she threw her arms around the Mirror's neck. Gale raised a trebling paw to meet her, conflicting emotions pounding within his head. "Do you know this Fae...?" Shusha asked hesitantly. "I... Yes." Gale's expression slowly changed from one of confusion, to recognition. "Kara... You were... My best friend...! Earthshaker's Beard, I'm so sorry!!" Tears leaked from Gale's goggles as he returned Kara's embrace. "I left you for so long... I forgot the promise we made. I'm so, so sorry...!" Cheers erupted from the clan as the friends collapsed into each others' arms. Though most of them did not know the full story, the emotion that carried through the air was enough to send the excitable dragons into a celebration. Shusha remained silent as she packed up her wares. She considered her work done. But as she turned to leave, she felt a small hand on her shoulder. "What is your name?" Kara asked, "where did you come from? "Shusha." The Mirror moved out of Kara's grasp, "I don't come from anywhere." "Please." The Fae fluttered in front of Shusha's face, "I must thank you somehow. Is there anything I could offer you? Treasure? Gems?" The irritated Shusha shook her head, "No. Nothing like that interests me." She gave her Zeeba the command to begin moving. "Then what about a place to stay?" The cart jolted as Shusha yanked on the Zeeba's reigns. "What?" "You could become a member of our guild...! You said you didn't come from anywhere, so you could join us. You wouldn't have to stay here, you could go wherever you please. But you would always be able to return here and be welcomed like family." For a moment, Shusha's breathing became funny. Her grip on the reigns tightened as her fingers became numb. There were butterflies in her stomach, her chest, her legs, everywhere. "Yes." The answer left her mouth before she realized her decision. "I would like that very much." Shusha had found something she didn't know how badly she wanted, she had finally found a home.
