❁ STORY

Always somewhat of a dreamer, Osprey has long enjoyed tales of heroism and adventure. He intended to find a way to partake in grand battles and such himself. Only when faced with the possibility, he found he couldn’t do it. Turns out, Osprey is sort of a homebody. He likes his books and his garden, fluffy creatures and hatchlings, but he just wasn’t cut out for long and dangerous journeys. He wrestles with this a lot, really, always wanting to be more than he is. It’s taken him a very long time to be comfortable with himself and the limitations he wishes weren’t there.

Instead of going off fighting, Osprey tends to the lair. He is the clan’s quartermaster, making sure they don’t run out of food or materials, keeping their armoury up to date and always ensuring that their lair is capable of meeting the various needs of all its denizens. While Aphid is the one to keep stock of their stores, he’s the one who makes sure they never run out. Consequently he and Aphid work quite closely together. But not that closely; they’re good friends, yes, constantly engaged in amicable bickering. But that’s all. He does value her friendship quite a bit, it should be noted.

Even though he’s never been able to actually participate in a battle (he doesn’t even like watching them, though he will help the healers out with injuries), he’s definitely fond of hearing about them. Callana tells the most amazing tales of dragons fighting the Shade or clans further south mired in everlasting conflict with Beastfolk. Those he loves to hear about. Sometimes, listening to her weave her fabulous stories, he can almost believe he’s there in the thick of the fray, braver than he is. Osprey also holds a mostly secret love for poetry and tales of fated lovers. He truly is a hopeless romantic, however those things he keeps to himself. Osprey's guilty pleasure is literature; he loves to learn things, to expand his horizons. And while he doesn't opt to surround himself with scrolls like Pencil, he does indulge in borrowing her tomes now and then.

Gardening is Osprey’s primary passion. He adores it; his endless fields are the clan’s main source of vegetation. Getting new seeds and coaxing them to life is his favourite challenge. Any kind of new flora he can coax into thriving make him smile. While his water gardens are next on his list of things to implement, he’s also very keen to start looking into how plants from the two extremes (the Icefields and Ashfall Waste) might be convinced to grow in the canyon. He’d really love to make a trip to the Labyrinth though, there must be so many plants hidden in there that he could add to his garden and he’s sometimes caught staring wistfully across the strait, no doubt thinking about just that. Often he can be seen on the rocky shore listening to the waves crashing or walking along the sand collecting shells as he strolls through the encroaching waters. He finds the beach so relaxing.

ORIGIN / From a deep sea clan, Osprey is a thickset marine Bogsneak. He’s built for powering through the ocean and is sort of awkward on land. Fast when he wants to be, sure, but not very elegant. His wings function better as guiding fins, but he can glide with them just fine, and they are great at helping him keep his balance on land. He was a healer in his birth clan, but doesn’t like blood or violence. Some still come to him for healing and occasionally he’ll tend them, but mostly he sends them off to Fen.

Fact / His fascination with plants is what lead him to seek a home on solid land. He loves underwater gardens, of course, but desperately wanted to expand his knowledge. Aora and Kairos have been assisting him with getting a reef garden established along the coast. But he tends to his inland gardens alone.

Likes / Watching the waves, sitting in the garden, seashells. He enjoys walking along the sand and wading into the ocean. The water is his favourite thing and if he’s not in his garden he’s along the rivers somewhere or on the beach.

Dislikes / It’s only a minor annoyance when Tarryn filches from his gardens but still, how hard would it be for her to ask? He really doesn’t like when his flowers get trampled on, and when folks make fun of how he walks. It doesn’t happen much in the Reliquary, but some travellers still find him odd.

Interests / He’s one of the few Pen allows in the library and he makes use of this by reading up on his botany. While not overly fond of insects, he does enjoy having them in his gardens and often goes out of his way to make sure the fields are suitable for them.
