Mekihl was found as a tiny hatchling sleeping under Clan Phantom's marketplace stall, seemingly having been abandoned by his parents. Calliope and Sililuuth carried him back to the lair and he was given to Hyra to be raised alongside another orphaned hatchling named Jimva. The two became as close as brothers, and were additionally good friends with Aussir's adoptive daughter, Nuara. The three were rarely seen apart and often did chores together when Jimva's lung condition permitted him to do work.
Things got a bit more complicated when the three hit adolescence. Like all guardians, Mekihl felt the call of the Search, but unlike other dragons, he didn't have to travel to find it: he quickly realized that his newfound protectiveness was directed at Nuara. Already quite awkward, Mekihl become even more so as he was torn between the desire to respect Nuara's independence and the urge to hover anxiously by her side at all moments. Further complicating the matter was the fact that Mekihl was developing a crush on Nuara, and he didn't want to ruin his chances by awkwardly following her around. Nuara seemed a bit baffled by her newfound position as Mekihl's charge, but she took the development more or less in stride.
After months of extreme weirdness and learning to deal with guardian-ness, Mekihl has settled a bit more comfortably into his role in the clan. He is still quite awkward and often stumbles over his words, particularly around Nuara. His romantic interest in her remains unmentioned and unrequited, but he still carries the quiet hope that someday he'll be brave enough to broach the subject, and that she will respond in kind.
