It was in stark contrast to the surrounding area. Speckling remains of blood coated the carpet, mercilessly murdered with no cover-up. Tall, towering ceilings adorned with cavernous cracks and mysterious creaks. A half-drawn chalk outline was now collecting more dust than that it had been created with, giving it an extra limb and half another tail. One dead. I was here to stop there from being another. No force could splinter through the hallowed halls, they wouldn't let them. I could always get myself through any door, closed or not, for I was here to give them something they wanted in exchange for the precious thing everyone craved; the life of another. My snow-colored wardrobe gave the illusion that I was nothing but a gift to anyone who could see me, bright in the dark, never hidden. I was the present in every meaning of the word. They must have known I was near. I didn't make the clink of heavy artillery, or the clicking noise of talons on marble. The only noice that emitted from my living corpse was silk swishing alongside the floor, against my armor, and breathing as though it was alive. They did hear. They came from deeper inside, a silhouette in the shadows, saying my name in an unfamiliar tone. I could only beckon with my claws and stare, with my slitted, brown eyes. My head lifted itself, and spoke softly, like I did to the birds who flocked to my windowsill. "I want to make our situation clear. You know my presence will not be long-lived. I'm aware you have something concealed from my eyes. Now, shall we speak?"    |
