Hornet is the epitome of the phrase "bite first, ask questions later." As a magic-less hatchling growing up in the desert on the border of Fire territory, she learned to be fast, brutal and ruthless before she learned to talk. Some, who think they know her well, say that she honed herself to speed because she is cowardly at her core, preferring to run rather than fight--or strike first, to kill, and thereby avoid confrontation. These dragons are what Hornet would call "busybodies," and generally shut up soon after Hornet hears what they've been saying. Those who do know her well keep their jaws shut, neither confirming nor denying the information at hand.

Whatever the reason, Hornet is the fastest dragon in Stonehearth. She attained that designation the first cycle she joined the Clan, and has defended her title at every cycle-Games since. Zig is eternally frustrated at coming in second.

Hornet was...forcibly asked to join the Clan. Several cycles ago, a nearby herd of Centaur came to the Clan asking for a reprieve from a lone dragon regularly hunting in their territory and attacking their stores. It took an ingenious net-trap designed by Crocus to bring her down; none of Stonehearth's warriors could touch her, and while there were no fatalities, the hunting party came back looking much worse for wear than a fight with one skinny Mirror should have attested.

It took her some time to get used to living in a Clan. She could barely speak, and no other dragon would share a meal with her after the disaster that occurred the night after they brought her home. Eventually, since she was still fairly young, her training was turned over to Ort, who won her heart in a way that no one else had: patiently. Very, very patiently.

It was clear after the first cycle that Hornet would never be a team fighter. She thinks of herself and only herself in a fight, and no amount of lectures or real-world experience can change that mindset. So, Ort changed his tack. After reluctantly learning to read and write, she was eventually given the job of Clan Courier.

While some couriers split their attributes between bulk and speed, Hornet is entirely of the latter persuasion. She is whipcord-thin, bones clearly visible at all times through her scales and skin. She has no more strength than what is necessary to get in the first blow and get away again. But she has speed, and the endurance to travel clear across Sornieth if she must. She has a slightly spotty delivery record, as she will not hesitate to drop the package or letter or whatever it is she's carrying if she thinks it will distract a potential opponent or if it is weighing her down. But the sheer distance she can travel in the space of a few days is astonishing, and is the primary reason that Stonehearth is finally reaching out into the world, instead of remaining completely insulated in the Breach.

Hornet is not very personable. Even with those she calls friends, she is curt and quiet. She might be lonely under her waspish shell, but if so, she keeps it tightly wrapped, and those who do know her keep her secrets well.
