Biography

THIS BIO IS GETTING LONG. May move to Creative in the forums (or at least the part after the dashes.)

Yachin was once a resident of the Starfall Isles. He knows that. His memory of just what it was like there is scattered and hazy, however. It wasn't unpleasant -- he remembers that much. There were other dragons. Had he been a part of a clan? Maybe. He had been...destined...for something... What was it? And what changed? Why is it that he can only clearly remember things as he crossed where the broken-up crystals stopped jutting out of the sea, and instead, he began crossing ice burgs? At night, the moon kept him company. During the day, the sun was his friend. Yet he was...scared? Something like that... Of course, being a small, young dragon all alone, fluttering from solid for to solid form with ocean all around you would be frightening... Was that why? Or was there more he simply can't remember?

After crossing the scattered ice burgs, Yachin made it to the Southern Icefield. Being so cold and having only eaten what easy prey he could catch was hardly a good combination. And his current trajectory was taking him only deeper into the cold... He could have easily died there, in the Frigid Floes, had he not been found by Versortis, who had been out fishing in the absence of the clan's primary fisherdragon. Having been taken in, and nursed back to health, Yachin conveyed as much as he could remember of his past and how he wound up in the Frigid Floes. Considering Yachin's uncertain memory and uneasy unwillingness to return to the Starfall Isles, Hiemis offered his clan to the young dragon as his new home. Yachin gratefully agreed, and received his new name: Ponomiratio.

The prevailing explanation for Pono's memory problems is the excessive amount of magical energies in the Starfall Isles. Perhaps, if he'd been exposed to too much of it, it would have affected his mind. It's all speculation, but it's the best theory they have, and the one Pono agrees with the most. He still can't shake the feeling that he narrowly escaped some danger in the Starfall Isles, though, and had been fleeing from it...

Pono himself was a quiet child with a placid demeanor, generally observing but not usually expressing his thoughts or opinions. This wasn't entirely due to his shyness, as that particular trait was only slight. Rather, he simply didn't think to respond to things aloud, himself, very often. Though he's still quiet now, as an adult, he's not nearly as much as when he was younger, taking a more active role than he used to.

Pono is a deep thinker, and spent much of his time quietly observing daily goings-ons, and things he was curious about when he was younger. The latter he quietly studied until he'd learned as much as he could from it, or has satisfied some unspoken question tickling the back of his mind. This habit has made him a rather knowledgeable dragon, and he still practices many of the same habits as an adult, albeit less intensively.

A lot goes on in that head of his. In fact, he's a very well-spoken and intelligent dragon, with all sorts of thoughts, questions, and theories buzzing around in there. He sometimes appears absent-minded as a result, but the truth is that he is extremely attentive to everything going on both inside and outside of his skull.

---

It was during Pono's first Starfall Celebration. Sornieth's lines of magic were swollen with particularly strong arcane energy that night, and the imperial had finished his daily routine. Tonight, the sky was clear, and he had decided to go with a few clanmates to the Frigid Floes. The view of the sky over the Starfall Isles would be absolutely stunning from there tonight, however distant it was.

Pono was a little apprehensive, even now that he had been full grown for some time. His past from there was still a great mystery, and he still didn't remember anything about it. Nothing except some deep and terrible sense of fear. Still, he had decided to go. Filia was incredibly excited for the event. Aevitas wasn't as exuberant, but was also looking forward to it. Versortis was the only one out of their group who really showed any concern for Pono's fragility around the place, but he assured her he was fine. He figured there was nothing tangible to fear, and he didn't want to trouble any of the others.

As it turned out, however, there was a real risk. He should have known earlier, having felt some sort of...strain, steadily increasing since the Starfall Celebration began. The sight from the floes would have been beautiful, with arcane energy tinting the stars and making them shine all the brighter over the black, cold ocean. The only trouble was that he had hardly arrived at the shore before something rushed over his senses like a wave, overwhelming him. His vision blurred and blanked out, and his head swam. Pono wasn't coherent, but he wasn't completely unconscious, either, eyes rolling sightlessly and body writhing on the icy ground. Following Versortis' direction, the other dragons carried him back to the lair and took him immediately to Par.

By the time the sun rose, Pono was feeling much better. He was still shaky and a little confused, but could otherwise function relatively normally. Unfortunately, Parvus couldn't explain Pono's sudden episode, but she confined him to the healers' quarters for several days. No one was willing to risk something like that happening again. Still, there was something...different about Pono after that. Some sort of new sheen to his scales, or look to his eyes. It's hard to place what, exactly, but that episode may have affected him more than is yet apparent...

Some days later, Parvus' understudy, Lacy, got a lead he felt was worth following regarding Pono's condition. He had noticed that the magical lines which streamed around Sornieth, when charged with arcane power, seemed to affect the imperial. And, in fact, such lines of magic seemed drawn to him. Now that it was pointed out to her, Parvus herself could feel that her fellow healer was right. They could only guess that this arcane energy was trying to pour itself into Ponomiratio in too great of volumes too quickly. They even suggested that the arcane lines were bending towards him if he got too close to them, and if he got caught up directly into their flow... Well, that may have explained what had happened when he went to see the stars over the Starfall Isles.

Parvus' recommended treatment was for Pono to undergo some training. If he could learn to use the arcane energy that poured into him, then perhaps he could lessen the strain. Besides that, she figured some exercise couldn't be unhealthy. So, she sent Lacy with Pono to observe him and keep an eye on him, as well as to practice his own healing ability. Exorsa also went with them to keep an eye on them, being one of the clan's oldest (albeit also an amnesiac) and largest members. Because let's face it -- Lacy, a fae, is not going to be able to tote Pono, an imperial, back to the lair if something went wrong.

While Pono, Lacy, and Exorsa spent time in Training Fields, Parvus continued her research, conferring with Versortis as to other ways to help Pono with his problem. While they were talking, two other clan members came in, wanting to ask Versortis about something. Nox and Sibil had seen some strange creature around the territory lately. Evidently, the two had been competing to see who could catch it first, but by now, they'd just grown frustrated with it. When they described it, though, and even went through the clan's bestiary to see if the pair recognized it, no one could tell what it was. The issue was taken to Hiemis. After some discussion, it was decided that finding this creature would be among the clan's top priorities, until it was caught, or at least until the sightings stopped.

Eventually, the creature was caught. One thing was certain about it: it was arcane, and not just a little. In fact, it was quite similar-looking in form to Penna's goblin, which was said to be the eyes of the Lightweaver. So, Versortis surmised that this creature was likely related to the Arcanist in some way, perhaps drawn to Pono. So, the dragoness decided she would seek answers in the Starfall Isles -- both about this goblin and about Pono's condition. It was the first time she had set out again since joining Hiemis in starting this clan. She would return, however. And she felt that, in order to take care of one of their clan members, she had to do this. So, she set out.

When Versortis returned, she came back with both knowledge and a new item. She had added a page in the clan's bestiary detailing the goblin they had seen. It was known as an Enchanting Goblin, and was "the eyes of the Arcanist," said to relay information on what it sees to the Arcanist himself. As for the cloak she returned with, she gave it to Pono. According to the information she had gathered, it was a special cloak, enchanted to "mirrored the heavens." While it was obvious that the cloak had a starry pattern on it, she expressed the hope that it would also help to shield the imperial from the swollen lines of arcane magic's bombardment.

The cloak was put onto Pono right away, and the healers and Versortis watched, waiting to see if it worked as the Matriarch hoped. It was difficult to tell just initially, so Parvus sent Lacy off with Pono to test it out in the training fields. Exorsa went along with them, as usual. When they returned Pono said that he thought it might be helping, but wasn't sure. He's worn it as a precaution ever since.

As for the goblin, Pono requested that it be kept away from him. It was difficult for him to explain why, but its presence made him nervous. It was like someone was watching him, and with interest...
