Cares about nothing more than his clan. Would fight to the death to protect it.
History:
As an orphaned young fire dragon, he used to wander around destroying forests with fire and rarely cared about anything. He became a feared vagabond across many lands for his destructive tendencies and seemingly lack of empathy.
One day he came upon the newly formed clan with Nightshade as it's matriarch. She tried reasoning with him to not destroy her clan's forest, but he didn't listen. As he launched an attack, she took the blunt of the flames in order to protect the forest, and counterattacked. Confused by the resistance, Blackthorn froze for a second, just long enough for Nightshade to successfully land a few scratches. In a blind fit of rage from the pain, he lept at her, falling into a trap. Not paying attention to his surroundings, he didn't notice himself being led to a cliff. When he lept, Nightshade clashed with him in midair, scratching his right eye and blinding him on that side. She used the momentum to throw him over the edge of the cliff, falling down into a river. The water from the river rendered his fire powers useless, and he was knocked unconscious by the impact.
When he came to, his injuries were being treated and he was surrounded by the clan's dragons, all with concerned looks on their faces. Dazed and extremely confused, he asked Nightshade, "I don't understand. Why don't you kill me? I hurt you, damaged your forest, and could have killed those in your clan..."
Nightshade explained to him how yes, if he had threatened her clanmates and would not stop, she may have killed him, but since she saw hesitation in his eyes, she reconsidered. She wanted to render him incapable of killing long enough to talk to him and ask why he was so bent on destruction. He never opened up to anyone before, but her curiosity in his life made him feel as if he wanted to talk to her.
He told her about his past, and how he never knew a family, and was shunned by all wherever he went. He trained and made himself strong in order to survive on his own from attacks from the beastclans. One time when a group of young dragons ambushed him, he fought back, killing one accidentally. Since then the simple shunning from all dragon clans turned to fear, and he was fought away from dragon clans. He kept wandering, and with each time that he tried to rest within a clan, he was met with disdain and force, driving him off. If everyone claimed him to be a monster, why not become one? So he started with just fighting back. All the months of shunning and fighting got to him and he snapped, deciding if the world was against him, he'd be against the world. The whole time he was talking, Nightshade just sat, listening intently and nodding every so often.
He didn't know why he was telling her all this, but since she was the first dragon to try and understand his point of view, and once he started talking, he just wanted to vent it all.
By the end, when he had nothing else to stay, Nightshade asked him the unthinkable. "Would you like to join our clan? We are new and small in number. It is hard for me for fight off threats myself, and that is making us weak. I would love if you could use your strength to help us. If not, we will let you go, but please promise me you will stop the destruction. Though fighting may be necessary at times, senseless violence is never the answer..."
Blackthorn hadn't cried since he was a hatchling, alone in the world, but at the overwhelming emotions he felt from someone actually willing to accept him into their clan, his eyes began to tear up. This was all he ever wanted his whole life, and at that point he decided to join the clan and defend them with all his strength. Especially Nightshade, who was so accepting even when she had no reason to be. With that, he became one of the clan's most powerful assets, and still guards them with his life to this day.
He was a major factor of Osiris joining the clan. Osiris idolized him and his strength, and Blackthorn felt honored to be put on such a high pedastel from this young dragon. As Osiris used to wander about too, he saw a bit of himself in Osiris, so he agreed to train him, and taught Osiris everything he knows. His training was so strict that Osiris had become equal in strength to him, and then unexpectedly, surpassed him in strength, which surprised Blackthorn, yet made him feel proud to be his mentor. They are often referred to as brothers by the other clan members since they have become nearly inseparable. The grey wolf pelt Blackthorn wears was a gift from Osiris.
