Shivanna

Shivanna was brought into the lair by Draylin, the human treasurer of the clan. When Draylin first entered the cave, Corsair fluttered up and was distressed to see the eye color of the whelp. "It's a plague dragon," he said.

Draylin cuddled the hatchling to her chest. "She was just born today. She hasn't had time to learn their ways."

Corsair whipped his tail around in irritation. "What if it carries disease?"

Draylin sighed. "I told you, it's newly born. The only thing 'plagued' about her is her eye color. She will be raised as a member of the lightning flight."

Corsair didn't press the issue further, but the other dragons had come to see what the commotion was about. Atlas was the only other guardian of the clan at this time, and while at first she was pleased to have another about, she hesitated when she saw the eyes.

Finally Silence approached, nosing at the hatchling. Silence herself was originally of the shadow flight, and was raised by them. She'd always held herself away from the others, except while working together in the Colosseum. Perhaps it was because of the other dragons all but rejecting the hatchling, that the normally ill-tempered Mirror dragon took a shine to the whelp. Of course, for Silence, that simply meant not hissing at the young dragon as much as she did to the others.

Shivanna grew quickly, and within just a few weeks, what had been a hatchling galloping at the heels of the black mirror dragon, was now towering above. Though she now dwarfs Silence, she has never forgotten how she had taken her in, and remains close to her to this day.


Shivanna wears an electrician's armband. A symbol of her devotion to the lightning flight, which is the only family she has ever known. The other dragons of the clan are now quick to come to her defense against any who speak against her due to the color of her eyes.

Original story:

The woman picked up the squirming hatchling and held it at arms length under the wings as it writhed with excitement. The newly born guardian dragon was already heavy, and the rapidly swinging tail made her difficult to hold like this for long.

Draylin shifted the young dragonling belly-up into the crook of her arm, holding the hatchling as one would cradle a baby. The dragon made a multitude of tiny noises, each one less becoming to a dragon than the next. Draylin couldn't help but smile at her. This little one didn't have a name yet, but at less than a day old, such things could wait.

She began walking from the auction block, her purse now empty of every coin she had earned this week. Draylin had no regrets, though. She admired the beautiful iridescent teal of the small dragon's scales, and the lovely eye-spotted lavender wings. This one would certainly grow into a beautiful dragon. Draylin's only concern was the hatchling's eyes. She was accustomed to that of the soothing blue glow of the lightning dragons. But this dragon's eyes sheened a deep red. A plague dragon. She hoped the rest of her clan would be willing to accept the new addition.

Her eldest dragon, Silence, she didn't have to worry about. She was a mirror shadow dragon and was accustomed to being the odd dragon out. The head of the clan, Corsair, was more of a concern. Though he had a relaxed attitude, Draylin had also never tried bringing a baby plague dragon into the fae's lair. Atlas, his mate, was a guardian dragon like this little one, and Draylin hoped that'd be enough common ground to earn the hatchling's acceptance into the clan.

A wistful smile spread across her lips as she looked down upon the squawking mass of dragon in her arms. It wouldn't be long until this wiggly little creature would be stately towering over her just like Atlas. But until then, she'd enjoy the young dragon's antics and manageable size. She gave the hatchling a gentle squeeze to settle her and continued the long walk home.
