As much as he'd like to argue otherwise, Zerif was kicked out of his original shadow flight clan;
his (former) clanmates saw him simply as a nuisance - another useless mouth to feed. He eventually wandered into the Flickering Shadows' territory, and was delighted to find that they'd be willing to accept him as their own, regardless of his heritage (or supposed "useless" nature). Zerif is often referred to as "Sir Prissy-Pants" behind his back, as he thinks of himself quite highly (this belief obvious in his behavior). Zerif greatly enjoys telling every hatchling who'll listen that he's actually a lost prince from a very important shadow flight clan - that is, until they grow old enough to know better. The hatchlings hang onto every word he says as the parents roll their eyes in exasperation.
Zerif is, unhappily, the charge of Dusk. He is very outwardly, vocally, displeased with this
arrangement, but inwardly rather happy to have the attention. Dusk seems to sense that truth, and is happy to hang around Zerif, despite the other's incessant one-sided bickering. Beyond Dusk (perhaps even more so than Dusk), Zerif is closest to Dunkelheit, his mate. He holds her in very high respect, and is committed to reassuring her of her worth every chance he gets.
