- Biography

A strong willed and steadfast young guardian who is one of only two dragons to make it out alive from her plague-stricken home, the other being her father - and charge - Hope.

Aira spent many months searching for him, only to eventually stumble upon him receiving treatment from an enigmatic skydancer deep within Light territory.

She joined the fledgling group in spite of her misgivings regarding the shade-steeped Helena, and remained there with her father even after his evident cure.

- In red: Backstory by Gainstrive:

She had journeyed for many hundreds of miles, bloodying her paws on rough unforgiving terrain. It had taken her years to get this far, hunting for him. He had vanished so many moons ago, she was too young to remember where he had gone, if he had said where he was going at all. All she knew was that she had to find him, before it was too late. He was sick, very sick. So was she, and her mother…

Her mother was gone. Her siblings, they had all perished with the rest of the clan. Whatever sickness had taken them, had resided in her bosom as well. But she had fought against it. When he had left, mistaking her for dead, she hid. She hid from the dead who roamed her former clan, sightless eyes finding any movement and attacking. She didn’t know what had become of them, but they weren’t her clanmates any more. Even her mother had lunged at her, whatever creature now inhabiting her rotting body only sensing her as an enemy, or food.

She fled that cursed place, traveling in roughly the direction that he had gone until her legs gave out under her and she collapsed. She rallied only with the help of a passing clan of Serthis who had taken pity on her and nursed her back to health. They weren’t native to the area, and whatever illness that had befallen her clan was something they had medicine to combat. They called it the Walking Shade, a sickness contracted from mysterious origins. They told her that when the Shade seeped out of the earth, whatever was in its path perished in a grisly, unspeakable way. The Serthis clan who had saved her was small, and could not fight against the undead. but they could try to rescue the ones that had not yet succumbed, herself included.

Parting ways with the Serthis once their journey no longer followed the same path, she once again set off in her endless search. For him. She had heard rumors, she had spoken to many who had seen a guardian pass by, dressed in tatters and only armed with a worn medicine bag and a haggard cloak. His face was always hidden, so no-one could ever confirm whether it was him. But she knew.

“Father, I’ve found you.”

- Excerpt

The skydancer hadn’t slept for days.

She had simply sat there, hunched over as she watched the three eggs in a constant vigil.

Aira still didn’t know how to feel about her, particularly after the backfired spell. Only now was she feeling at all comfortable leaving her father’s side for more than a few moments – he’d been so terribly ill she feared he wouldn’t live through it.

But, today he’d asked her to offer her help to Miss Helena, and she wasn’t about to deny him.

“You mustn’t take your eyes off them for even a moment,” Helena urged – pleaded, even – when Aira had finally convinced her to get some sleep. “If you don’t feel you are able, wake me even if it’s only been an hour.”

She’d agreed, albeit somewhat begrudgingly, and the skydancer staggered off to the beds.

The eggs weren’t moving – they never seemed to – honestly, Aira and Suchi were starting to believe they were all duds, which wouldn’t be too shocking given the nature of their creation.

And yet, that black one…

It felt as if it was staring, somehow. If she watched it too long the feeling only grew worse, sending a chill up her spine.

The other two though, they were just eggs. Drab, dead looking eggs.

She knelt beside the makeshift nest of blankets and did her best to watch as Helena instructed, ignoring the building paranoia the blackened egg was causing.

She started to feel ill before an hour had passed, swallowing back the taste of bile as her stomach churned. Was it nerves? Better not to chance it, certainly.

She turned,

And that was all it needed.

There was a surge of air and then overwhelming, choking silence as the entity jumped at – and then through her. Burnt metal assailed her nostrils and mouth, choking her as it skidded to a stop on the parched earth in front of her.

It turned and stared with no eyes – no, countless eyes – and opened its crooked, sideways mouth, and then another,

And another, and another.

She screamed, the creature turned and shot away, and everything went black.
