Andre Laurent Jean Geraux, or more commonly known as “Bebe” to his clanmates, is the clan’s tailor with a specific taste in airy, oriental types of clothing. He first hailed from the Southern Icelands but came to the Scarred Wasteland to visit. It has been a place of interested for a long time, despite knowing the dangers of going to the Plague flight. Many have tried to convince him to stay home but he would not take ‘no’ for an answer. He was a grown adult and it was time for him to move onto new lands and see new people. It took some time but he was able to leave his clan and move to his new home.

Bebe was fascinated by the new landscape that was around him. Who wouldn’t, for all he had ever known was the endless white snow that covered everything. Now, there were mounds of mysterious objects, strange and curious things around every corner, a few dangerous beasts every so often, and brand new faces to see everywhere! Of course it took some time to get settled in but he got over it after a few days of sickness. Instantly, his bright and cheerful personality caught the attention of many peers and they helped him acclimatize to the clan. It also helped out that he was a tailor back at home and this instantly propelled him into a higher position to prepare clothing to protect other dragons from the dangers of the Wastelands.

Though he was very skilled a creating clothing from what appeared as scraps of fabric, there was something missing in his life. These pieces of clothing were not speaking to him, not giving him quite the satisfaction he wanted. That all changed when he saw a peculiar helmet on a mirror one day.

It was more accurate to call it a mask than a helmet. It was made of metal and covered the whole face of the dragon. The way it was made enhanced the contours of the dragons face to make them more fearsome and brave. Long fur flowed out the back of it to create a beautiful mane and a large crescent moon motif was pinned to the front of the helmet. On first sight he knew where his true calling was.

After some asking and research, Bebe learned that this style was a ‘samurai’ helmet from before the Age of Dragons. More old scrolls and books revealed an entire culture with clothing styles like nothing in the current time. Entranced by such a thing, he vowed to bring it back to life and set to work immediately. Orders of silk were shipped in and from them Bebe would create long flowing dresses that made a dragon appear to glide across the floor, shimmering in the light of the day. Instantly, orders of these kinds of clothing came in from all around and he gladly set to work creating more of them. He even delved into the style of armor from before and recreated the helmet that inspired this all.

Finally, he had found his joy in life and was happy to share this with the rest of his clan and anyone else who had an interested in fashion.

Bebe, as much as he is cheery, is a touch lonely in his new home. He does miss the Southern Icefields from time to time but does not regret his decision to move to the Wastelands. Still, wouldn’t it be nice to have a companion that also would be interested in clothing as much as he? Perhaps time will tell.

Story by Cryoluxa

"Your tea, fair ladies."

The butler rested the tea set on the table in front of the trio of squirming, smiling girls. It was the same as it was every day. The women would come and he and his compatriots would serve them for about an hour before they left and they would prepare for the next appointment. Today, though they were understaffed. It had been a bit tiring, constantly putting on the charming smile, the calm eyes, and the soft, and mildly cheerful intonation. It may not have sounded like much to most, but putting on airs for so long and being so careful about it was exhausting.

Bebe waited on the princesses he was assigned to for the rest of the hour before they went to the gift shop and bought a special teacup, a couple small cakes, and a few pictures of him, which he signed using his character name. As they left, as always, Bebe bowed to them as they exited the establishment. Once they were fully out of view, it was time to clean up. Bebe breathed a sigh of relief, finally dropping the act.

"You did well again today," one of Bebe's fellow butlers said as he came over to him. This one had the aura of a seasoned professional. The collected, knowing butler persona came so naturally to him that he was always like that. It was pretty much impossible to frazzle him.

"As always," laughed another, who was working in the background. This one was the type who seemed to constantly be privy to some secret joke or other, chuckling quietly to himself and always smiling. "Andre's our most popular butler, after all."

Yes, these guys preferred to use Bebe's actual first name. "Hontou ni, ofutari wo wakari masen. Itsumo nihongo de hanashkunai doushite?" ("Honestly, I don't understand you two. Why do you never speak Japanese?")

"Eigo ga motto kakkoi desu yo!" ("English is cool, you know!") the jolly one answered, grinning widely. "It's a trendy language, and it's always good to practice since we get so many guests who speak it."

"It's a good life skill, too. You should use it more," the collected one replied.

Bebe grunted. "Demo, muzukashii desu..." ("But it's difficult...")

"Ah, right, Japanese is already your second language, isn't it? Well, your French accent makes you really popular, so I won't complain, but why didn't you learn English instead of Japanese?" asked the jolly one, lightly laughing.

"Watashi wa shogakusei nihon made ki mashita. Sore kara." ("I was an elementary school student when I came to Japan. That's why.") Bebe replied.

"I've heard guests comment on his Japanese accent being cute, too," the collected one added with a chuckle.

"Eeeeh?! Majide! ("Huuuh?! No way!") He totally sounds French to me! I guess foreigners can't tell the difference, though, huh? We all sound so similar to the tourists who come through here!" the jolly one replied, giving the fact a laugh.

"Yamette kudasai..." ("Please stop...") Bebe replied, getting embarrassed about being the topic of conversation yet again.

"Very well," the collected one responded, putting in one last good-humored chuckle. Then, he held up his index finger smartly. "But...you need to speak more English outside of business hours. Just because you already know two language does not excuse you from practice."

Bebe sighed. "Hai, senpai." ("Yes, senior butler.")

"Ah-ah! Say it in English," the collected one lightly reprimanded.

Bebe gave a deeper sigh. "Yes, sir."

"That's better. Now, Andre, you're still in high school, aren't you? You probably have homework to get to, so leave the rest of the cleaning up to us and get home. You've done well today."

That was the last thing Bebe's manager said to him, though the jolly one did complain a little. He got an earful for that. As for Bebe, he did indeed have schoolwork to get to. He was pretty tired, too. He was navigating the streets of Tokyo to get to the train station in order to return home from the butler cafe he worked at when, while rounding a corner, he bumped into a girl in a maid costume. She ran into him so hard that she bounced off of him and fell on her bum, even as she knocked Bebe onto his!

"I-I'm sorry!" she stammered, only opening her eyes from falling down after the apology. A look of surprise came into her face at seeing Bebe sitting there.

"I-it's fine," re replied as he stood back up, not yet noticing her expression.

"A...butler?"

"Hm?"

Bebe looked down and practically jumped up in surprise to find that he'd forgotten to change out of his work uniform. "Eh?!" Kono sutsu wo mou ki masu ka?! (I'm still wearing this suit?!)

Bebe looked up to the sound of the maid giggling, still sitting where she had fallen. "Kafee ni hataraki masu ne? Watashi mo." ("You work at a cafe, huh? So do I.")

"Meido kafee ni?" ("At a maid cafe?") Bebe asked as the girl picked herself up and straightened out her clothes. She paused halfway through the latter action, though.

Then, she screamed, startling Bebe and making him hope that no one assumed he was doing anything untoward to her. Luckily, the scream was followed by her panicked, "Kore wo mou ki masu kaaaaa?!" ("I'm still wearing this?!")

It was clear, in that moment, that destiny was afoot. Destiny...that two people who worked at cafes would have dry-cleaning to pick up later.
