Backstory

Memory never saw the point of following orders, even as a child. She was always the bully at play time, always ignoring her parents, and always taking advantage of others kindness. She got exiled a few years after she could fly, she was heartbroken, despite saying she wanted nothing more than to be away from those she held closest. At the time she knew she should have said goodbye to her parents. She knew she should have said she loves them, and that she'll miss them dearly. She didn't.
It's her biggest regret.
Her clans courier gave her a ride to Wind on his way to Ice after she had packed a bag. Memory wasn't on her own before she ran into a mirror. There was a mirror in her old clan, but she wasn't nearly as big and intimidating as this one. She felt her fight or flight instincts start to kick in as he approached.
"Are you lost?" The mirror asked, he sounded nice, "I'm Kaiser. What's a Lightning dragon like you doing in Wind?"
She couldn't tell him the truth. She was disappointed and mad at herself.
"I left my old clan. Too boring and controlling." She said in her best edgy and rebellious voice.
"A friend of mine is the leader of a clan, there's a pearlcatcher who is just about your age if you're interested."
She knew of the stigma between imperials and pearlcatchers, but she didn't care about that. Like, at all. She hoped that the pearlcatcher didn't care either.
"Sure." Her voice was monotone. Just like that, she had a new clan.
Soon after the clan began quickly growing, she met someone who became as close as a brother to her, Duelist. She didn't feel the need to be edgy and mean around him.
She put forth minimal effort on all of her work the clan asked her to do. She didn't have a real job, or any friends.
As she grew taller, she easily came across as intimidating. She didn't have to work hard to get what she wanted, and if someone showed resistance, all she had to do was raise her voice and bear her teeth a bit.
She didn't want to be a doormat, she didn't want to be taken advantage of, and she made that very clear.
Seeker also made it very clear she didn't want to be taken advantage of after far too many years.
Any time Memory stepped too far out of line, yelled too loud, threatened violence too many times, she got banned for a few days. She had twenty minutes to pack a bag before she had to leave. She always claims she's happy she got banned, that she finally has an excuse to get away, but she always returns a day early. She refuses to admit she's terrified of the independence she claims to want nothing more.
One day, Seeker had a clan meeting. The clan was still small, just barely under 15 members. The meeting was something about increasing the work load in order to support the multiple hatchlings, she can't remember much from that day. She does know that, for some reason, she got up and started yelling, picking a fight with whoever tried to calm her. As she made an advance towards Seeker, Catcher got in her path. She lost control of anything holding her back and threw Catcher around like a rag doll before throwing her aside. That's when Snowdrift barreled into her, they fought until both were worn out and had lost too much blood.
Seeker told Memory she either had to completely change her life around or to never show her face in Wind again.
"Get out of here before I have Snowdrift show you your way out. You have a week to decide if you want to come back."
Memory then flew off, taking nothing with her.
She couldn't live with herself if she was exiled from another clan, she couldn't live with herself if she had to leave someone else she considered family.
Duelist came to visit her towards the end of her banishment, he brought food. She hadn't eaten since she left.
"I lied to Seeker's face to come visit you, I told her I was going fishing and was going to use this as bait."
Memory can't remember the last time she was that happy to see someone.
"How did you find me?" She was nearly crying.
"You're not easy to pass, everything here is green. You always said this was a nice river." Duelist passed over the bag of various food he brought. "What are you going to do?"
"I want to go back. I want to change. I wouldn't be able to go somewhere else."
"We can help, I don't want to say bye to you just yet. Remove yourself from situations you feel will end in violence. You have a lot of grit, stop repressing it."
There was silence for a few minutes as Memory stared at her claws.
"How's Catcher?" Memory's voice was just above a whisper.
"She's recovering, she doesn't leave her den much. I talked to her a day or two ago, she's not mad."
They talked for a bit before Duelist had to leave.
Days later, Memory returned to the clan. She saw Seeker in the clearing. The dragons in her path quickly moved out of the way. Memory stood directly in front of Seeker with her head lowered, both out of respect and shame.
"I want to change."

Current

Everyday Memory takes a step forward to being the best version of herself. She apologized to Catcher, who forgave her. After some time they've become friends.
Memory now pulls her weight and so much more, despite still not having an official job. She hunts, she goes fishing, she helps out, anything and everything. She spends a lot of time gardening, she sees it as a way to replace the damage she's done with beauty.
She does have rough days, but not nearly as rough as she used to have. She sometimes yells or makes a rude comment, but someone is always there to make her realize her mistake and apologize for it.
She knows she can never erase the past, she can never go and take back hurting Catcher and Snowdrift, she can never apologize too many times for taking advantage of Seeker, and she can never go back and say goodbye to her parents.
She can, however, make sure her present and future self is in check. She can make sure her friends know she loves them. The past shouldn't define someone, she reminds herself that. She sees herself as her past self, she always will. Memory knows she has improved, but she can't shake her past failures.
