Biography
"So long as one is willing, it is entirely possible to change your fate for the better!" - Darka.
Darka has always had something of a gift. Or, depending on who you ask, it could easily be seen as a curse. Ever since she was a hatchling, swarms of butterflies have flocked to her and whispered to her warnings of impending disaster. Horrible tragedies like earthquakes or wildfires just waiting to strike. As any hatchling might be, she was incredibly frightened and ran to her mother, telling her of what the butterflies whispered. He mother simply patted her head and said she was imagining things. ... Then, tragedy struck that very same day. The tree in which Darka's clan made their home caught fire and burned to the ground, consuming a great many dragons within. Including Darka's mother, the only family she had. In that moment, the young Spiral swore she would never sit idly by ever again. From that day forward, the moment the butterflies began to whisper, she would warn the dragons around her of disaster and do everything in her power to prevent it or save whoever she could. It wasn't always possible, of course- some dragons just wouldn't listen to her, or her power just wasn't enough to save anyone. She tries to rationalize that she was just a child and she couldn't have done more, but the guilt still weighs heavily on her. As she grew older, her reputation slowly changed from crazed, paranoid dragoness to an omen of disaster. Many dragons believed that it wasn't Darka following the disaster, it was the disaster following Darka. The superstition gained traction the moment it began circling among clans, and it spiraled from there to the point that the mere sight of the dragoness would evoke fright and panic. Some dragons even took to attacking her to chase her from their clans, not even giving her a chance to warn them of the disaster coming for them. For a long time, Darka could only wander Sornieth, without a home to call her own or any companionship to ease the sting of her loneliness. But one day, her travels lead her to Clan Tellatale, where no one had heard her name or knew of who she was. Not until the butterflies began to whisper, and as always Darka acted immediately, warning Dragoon of the incoming disaster- an attack from a band of brigand dragons looking to rob and slaughter everyone in the clan- and pleading with him to trust her. For the first time in ages, a clan leader listened and acted with her. He gathered up the clan's warriors and came up with a plan of attack, ensuring that everyone who could fight would be fighting with the best possible strategy. The brigands barely lasted two minutes before growing overwhelmed and retreating into the horizon. The clan rejoiced and had a wonderful feast to celebrate averting the crises, in which they collectively thanked Darka for her warning. Dragoon curiously asked how she could have known, and so she told them her bleak tale... In the end, Dragoon offered her a place to stay within the clan, promising that no one would ever hurt or scoff at her ever again. She gratefully accepted his kind offer, and for the first night in years she finally had a home to call her own. Darka enjoys watching butterflies, playing with hatchlings, helping others, watching performances, instrumental music, and flying. She dislikes loud noises. |
