______ HATCHLING LORE:

Eivaria always had trouble since she was hatched. Growing up in a sea full of purples, reds, golds, pinks, and blues, her plumage created an outcast. She knew the clan cared for her, but sensed the morbid curiosity and slight discomfort at her color- or rather, lack thereof.

Her self-esteem quickly disappeared and she often isolated herself from the other hatchlings, disappearing high into the clouds and taking out her boundless energy alone. Sometimes, she took refuge in hidden corners of the glade, rolling about the grass and dandelions until she was covered in stains of green and yellow. She always washed it off before coming back to the clan. She knew it was but a pale imitation, and her body burned at the thought of being seen foolishly playing pretend.

It was only when she met a friendly King Parda that her confidence began to flourish. They became fast friends, bonding over mutual wonderment. Eivaria desperately wanted to know what it was like to flaunt all that color and the Parda could not help but be enraptured by the pureness of Eivaria's coat. Finding someone outside her clan- someone not obligated to compliment her because of family relations- gave some of Eivaria's self-esteem back. She satisfied the Parda's questions about clan life, and the Parda always remembered to let Eivaria know just how astonishing she looked.

On truly bad days, the Parda did not hesitate to pluck a colorful feather off its own body and tuck it among the down of the dragon.

The Parda, though it would never tell, was very happy those days were lessening with each season that passes.

______ DRAGON LORE:

Years go by and Eivaria now awakes each morning with a happy trill. The other dragons remark among each other how her joy has caused the white in her coat to brilliantly shine, how the black is as pure as ink, how her whole body is vigorous with energy that they hadn’t seen in her early years. She is, the clan would say if asked, absolutely beautiful.

Eivaria feels this. With her trusted Parda by her side, she prances about the glade, happier than ever. She flies high in the sky with others of her clan, playfully chasing them among the clouds, dancing with experienced grace.

She's come a long way from her days of crying behind rocks and not standing to look at her reflection. Her mottled, colorless patterns feel like a blessing. She stands out among the crowd, and she feels like a unique piece of art rather than like an unfinished masterpiece. There's more swagger in her step and pep to her flight. Father Tantus sees this and finally feels his mind can rest easy.

That's not to say there aren't still struggles. A wayward comment will be said, a glance and a whisper will be cast her way, and she'll feel the same shame and embarrassment she did when she was younger. But despite the old adage, history does not always repeat itself. Now the clan is quick to gather by Eivaria's side during her rougher times, having seen the err of their ways. She is given compliments and nuzzles of encouragement, kept close to her family's side and protected from anyone who could do her harm. And later, when Eivaria is feeling better, she will thank each and everyone one of them.

And when she lays down that evening, the Tampa tucked to her side and purring away, she plucks a black and white feather and gently places it among the Tampa's headcrest. She smiles before closing her eyes and dreaming of color.
