Biography

Sheeana's avatar

Sheeana knew she was different. When she was just a few days old, she told her father she wanted to be a Tundra. His first reaction was to laugh, but when he looked her in the eyes, he saw the look that all Guardians get when talking about their Charge. He didn't understand it, but he couldn't tell her no. One does not get in between a Guardian and her Charge.

He had heard rumors of a Guardian that had been turned into a Tundra in a nearby clan, so he took Sheeana there. Two tundras were waiting for them.

"See, I told you she would come!" said the plunky little green tundra.

"Are you sure you weren't born in an arcane nest?? How do you know these things, Mheras?" said the shimmery grey one.

"Look at my eyes, Heiying. You know I am a Wind dragon, through and through! I hear things on the wind," laughed Mheras.

Seine bowed his head towards the two Tundras. "I have heard rumors of a dragon here that can use the scrolls to change the form of other dragons. My daughter here believes it is part of her Charge to change her form. If you can help her in this, then I ask for your help."

Heiying returned the bow, "It is true. I have changed the form of other dragons in the clan, including another Guardian. That Guardian, however, lost all but the ghost of his memory of his Charge. The magic works differently on different dragons, but I am warning you of what could happen. The other Guardian was under great distress when he underwent the change, but it could not be helped. I will help you do this if you are still determined to."

"I am!" said Sheeana, speaking up for the first time. She was barely the size of the Tundras, still being a hatchling, but there was resolve in her eyes.

Heiying smiled at the Guardian. "Then please, stay with us, and we will help you realize your Charge."

**

Heiying wanted to wait until after Sheeana reached adulthood, as the change can be traumatic, too much for hatchlings to endure normally. In the meantime, Sheeana pestered every dragon in the clan about what it was like to be a Tundra, and about their lore and their history.

She went to the Guardians first, her own breed, and asked them about Tundras. At the time, there were only two, Broderick, one of the founders, and his mate Yoji.

"I was mated to a tundra at one time. Mheras and I founded this clan."

"Really?" questioned Sheeana.

"Yes. Ierda is our daughter. Our other children have gone off to other clans or deities. That is partly what drove Mheras and me apart. We had different ideas for what our children should do. I can't say that I exactly approve of what you are doing or hoping to accomplish. Tundras and Guardians are two of the least compatible species. You are going to have a war going on in your head. I hope you know what you are doing."

"Actually, I don't know. That is why I am asking questions and gathering knowledge. Thank you for your input," huffed Sheeana, who turned to walk away. Yoji looked at Broderick with concern, who only shrugged. The female Guardian took off after the young one.

"Sheeana, wait!" called Yoji.

"Who is he to tell me what I should and shouldn't do? I don't know why I have to do this, but I just know that I do!" said Sheeana, who didn't even stop walking.

"I know, darling," said Yoji, catching up. "You have to understand, though. This clan is his Charge. Anyone who steps foot into this clan becomes part of his Charge, including you. He is just concerned for your well being. Tundras have a habit of wandering off. They come back, but it drives him crazy. He wants everyone to be near him where he can watch over them. He is afraid that when you become a tundra, the call to wander will take you."

Sheeana stopped and looked down at her claws. "I am sorry I was rude. This whole Charge thing. It is maddening! How did you deal with it?"

Yoji motioned to her powerpack. "I was a foundling, hatched during the Lightning festival from a Lightning egg. My Charge has always been perfectly clear to me. I am sorry it is not so clear for you. But you have a whole clan to help you! So come on! Let's go talk to some more dragons!"

So Sheeana went around learning all she could about the species that she was to become so that she might know why she needed to become one...

**

It was the day before Heiying was to turn Sheeana into a Tundra. "I haven't talked to Mheras!" thought Sheeana. In fact, Sheeana hadn't seen much of Mheras since she got there. She asked around. Apparently, Mheras had gone off on one of her trips shortly after Sheeana arrived and had just gotten back today. Sheeana found Mheras sprawled out on her back on a hill, basking in the sun.

"You're blocking the sun!"

"Oh! Sorry!" said Sheeana, moving to position herself on the other side of Mheras. Sheeana was now twice the size of the Tundra. "I've come to ask you about Tundras."

"Hmmmm...not sure there is much to tell you! I am sure you've spoken to a bunch of tundras here in the clan." Mheras gave a huge yawn. "Ooooaaahhh..... *smack smack* Did you know there are places in the Ice realm where only tundras can go? Well, tundras and the furry icicle himself. It is so cold, no other breed of dragon can survive there long. We are originally from the ice realm, you know."

All of a sudden, Mheras sat bolt upright, startling poor Sheeana who had just started dozing off in the warm sun herself. "Look at the sun! I am going to be late for LARPing with the Lightweaver!" With a wink at Sheeana, Mheras launched herself into the air, leaving the poor Guardian in a daze.

**

The Changing

Heiying prepped me for this. Just stay calm. Try to keep your mind clear. Try not to think abo.....
OH GOSH, THE FUR! No no, clear your thoughts. The Charge. I am doing this for The Charge. But what is my Charge?? How can I keep my mind on the Charge when I don't even know what it is?!? Deep breaths. Peaceful thoughts, Sheeana. Be calm. Why is it cold? Didn't Mheras say something about the cold? What was it? It was so warm up on that hill, in the sun. Why is it so cold now?? ...

**

And then it was done. "Did it hurt?" said Mheras, poking at Sheeana. Mheras was HUGE. No, she just appeared that way because Sheeana was so much smaller now. And Yoji.... This was going to take some getting used to. Sheeana stood up, a little wobbly. No, it didn't hurt. It...she couldn't quite put a claw on it. She anticipated that she was going to feel like a Guardian in a Tundra body, but she felt like a Tundra. Thought of herself as a Tundra. It was so weird! But there was something else. Something that most Tundras don't have. Something that had been buried deep under the surface as a Guardian, but now that she was a Tundra, it was there! There, right at the surface! If she closed her eyes for a moment, relaxed, she could feel it. See it.

It was cold.

"Sheeana," Heiying's voice was barely over a whisper, but Sheeana heard it.

"It's still there, my Charge. I can almost see it. It is so much clearer now," Sheeana replied, her own voice a whisper.
.
.
.
"WELL WHAT IS IT, DOOFUS?!?" shouted Mheras, who couldn't contain herself.

Sheeana had fallen over, startled at Mheras' shout, but she jumped up laughing. "You should know! You are the one that gave me the clue! I am going south, to the Icefields. I am going where no Guardian can go, where no dragon can go, except a Tundra." She smiled at Mheras. "There is something, or someone, that I am to find there. That is my Charge. I couldn't see it as a Guardian, because Guardians come from the water. Their mind does not go to ice. But Tundras come from Ice. And their, no, our minds go to ice."
