FRISK

They were falling. Falling, falling, wings tangled and pearl slipping out of their grasp, red with the swirling energy of their soul, falling from the heavens deep underground...

frisk_scribble_by_mitsuara-da1iu3b.png

So, then one afternoon I dressed myself alone
I packed my pillowcase with everything I owned
And in my head I said "goodbye", then I was gone
And I set out on the heels of the unknown
So my folks could have a new life of their own
And then maybe I could find someone
Who could hear the only words that I'd known...

FALLEN CHILD

Frisk is mostly pacifistic: they'll fight back if very threatened and they'll fight for the dragons they love, but they do not fight to kill and would rather find a peaceful solution. They aren't much of a warrior anyways, and have had many a run-in with death as they tried to defend themself.
Their bond with Chara is incredibly strong. The two are thick as thieves, and have a near-constant dialogue between each other. Frisk is a little hard of sight so Chara tends to explain and describe their surroundings, something Frisk is very grateful for.
They are selectively mute and can only talk in certain situations; in all others, they'll resort to sign language or gestures to get their point across.

Despite everything, it's still you.

FLOWERS

They climbed for what felt like eternity.
Up the mountain, staff in one hand and pearl in the other, eyes of light fixed straight ahead.
Up the mountain, where it was whispered that whoever were to venture forth would vanish for eternity.
Up the mountain, never planning to come back down.

They weren't quite sure if they saw the hole or had been drawn to it, memories blurred in the sudden rush of falling. Tumbling down, down, down, out of the sky and spiralling underground, farther and farther. The ground loomed up to meet them, and they squeezed their eyes shut, prepared to vanish-- only to land with a soft whump.
Thick flowers sprawled around their body, fragant and golden, huge soft petals cupped upwards that cushioned their fall from above. A shaft of waning sunlight illuminated the patch of flowers, and as they twisted their head up to see where they had come from, the sunbeam slowly and quietly slid up and away.
A thick and heavy silence permeated the room, only the sound of their breaths and heartbeat accompanying them. A bittersweet feeling twisted their heart, and they clutched their red pearl close to their chest. So by vanishing, the legends meant dragons fell and were lost to the mountain. There was no way to fly out, even: the distance was far too great for the strongest of dragons, with no purchase on the stone walls to rest along the way.
Looking around the cavern, their eyes alighted on a hall of sorts, with a door-shaped hole in the wall.
Ah. So there was more to this place. Natural curiosity sparked, they rose to their feet, carefully holding their pearl and staff, and made their way through to the next room.

It was smaller and even more barren than the last: a small patch of grass lit by a small crack in the tall, tall ceiling with a single golden flower lay in the near-center, but other than that, the room was empty. But the flower seemed to be looking at them, and as they got closer, they realized it was - it had a face and was smirking with mischief in its eyes.

"Howdy! it chirped. "I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower!"

They stared, on the verge of fearful, disbelieving laughter, as Flowey kindly offered to help teach them how the Underground works - "Gosh, you must be so confused!" - was an understatement on his part. It wouldn't take the Arcanist to figure out that he was trying to trick them and kill them, yet as they dodged his trickery and watched him rage they felt a warm fondness in their heart. Before Flowey could do any actual damage, he was blown away with fire magic, cast by a small, but still towering, white Imperial. Her orange-red eyes were kind and her smile warm, yet as she extended a hand splotched with Maize they felt a feeling of wrongness, as though they were out of place in front of this kind, kind dragon.
She introduced herself as Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins ahead, and invited them to come with her. Though she went ahead to wait for them, they turned back, slipping back to the flowers. They looked at them, pondering Flowey while cupping a flower in their hand, then suddenly -

"Golden flowers. They must have broken your fall."

They recoiled, looking around wildly for the source of the voice, for it had had no clear source, and had seemed to come from inside their mind. Then, they saw it: a ghostly dragon standing just beside them.
They were a Pearlcatcher just like them - with Clown speckles and feathery, angelic Seraph wings, their pearl just as red as theirs but wispy and insubstantial. Their eyes were blank white and without pupils, and it was painfully obvious this was a dead dragon. They stared at each other for a few minutes, before the ghost opened their mouth to speak (the words still echoing in their mind).

"Who are you?"

They hesitated, then carefully replied, as though the name were a bomb that would explode if not handled carefully.
"Frisk. But who-"

"Go back to Toriel." they said briskly, ruffling their feathered wings. "Trust her." They avoided Frisk's eyes before speaking again, as quiet as the wind. "... I don't want you to know who I am."

"What are you doing?!"

Frisk looked back, their heart twisting painfully. "I'm leaving."

The ivory Pearlcatcher bared their teeth, whipping around to stand in front of them. "Why would you leave?" they demanded, mane bristling. "Go back."

Frisk shakily raised a hand, curling their tail around their legs. "Toriel.. All of this..." They waved their hand above the dark hall, gesturing to the warm and welcoming house just up the stairs. "It's-it's too good to be true."

The ghost stared at them, halfway between fury and bewilderment. "What is that supposed to mean?? She doesn't deserve to lose another-"
They cut themself off, biting their lip angrily. "I won't forgive you if you keep going, Frisk."

Frisk half-smiled, nodding quietly.
"I know. I'm sorry."

"Look, there's nothin to be afraid of. It's just a dark cavern filled with skeletons and horrible monsters."
'And that's supposed to be comforting..?' Frisk thought, digging their claws into the snow when they remembered that their companion had vanished again in anger. They trudged off with a sigh, thankful they were wearing a sweater in the cold, eyes peeled for their ghostly friend.
Though it took what felt like hours, Frisk finally found them, sitting morosely in front of a snowdragon and a pile of snow with the name Sans scrawled lazily on.
"H-hey, I-"
"Its fine." they said in a dejected tone of voice. "I.. I understand."
Frisk stared at the ground sullenly.
"... Chara."
They raised their head, furrowing their brows in confusion. "Chara?"
"That's my name. Chara." they huffed, avoiding Frisk's eyes.
Frisk simply stared, then smiled widely. "That's a nice name!" they exclaimed, oblivious to the flash of hurt remembrance in their eyes at their words. "Nice to meet you, Chara!"

As they watched, boils began to erupt through Chara's scales, sickly and pulsating. The skin and feathers of their wings peeled back, vanishing to nonexistent wind and leaving behind tatters. A layer of what looked like mold mixed with dust crept over their body, and as they turned to smile, Frisk was reminded of just how dead their friend was, their eyes sickly white and pupiless, seeming to stare right through them...
