Iwi

Iwi was aptly named, almost sounding like the most primal reaction to seeing her. She was born with a very unfortunate appearance, most dragons distanced themselves from her, spreading the idea that her looks were somehow contagious. Ridiculous really but it didn't stop it from sticking.
She eventually couldn't handle the harsh whispers and looks anymore and left her icy homeland, hoping that maybe there was a place where dragons could ignore the way she looked, failing that, maybe somewhere she could be alone.

Her first thought was to go to the sea of a thousand currents, surely the ocean held worse things than her. She was very wrong, most of the dragons she saw whilst searching there were beautiful! many amazing colours ranging from gentle blues to bright reds, but all nice to look at.

She brushed that off, she could always try somewhere else. Maybe the earth kingdom of Dragonhome? Earth dragons didn't care for looks right?

Right?

Wrong...Though the earth dragons weren't as delicate and pretty as those of the water clans, they had a powerful beauty about them, a strength that was beyond muscles

Losing hope now, she began heading towards the starfall isles, it was worth trying right?
on the way there she had to cut through an area she wasn't familiar with. She wasn't told about this place when she was a hatchling...She thought she knew all of the realms.
Ice, wind, arcane, earth, nature, shadow, light, water, fire and lightning. Right? So what is this place? It looked alive yet dead somehow, rotting flesh lined sickly geysers, what appeared to be bones were protruding from the ground. To say that this place unsettled her would be an understatement, she needed to leave, now.

She sped up ready to take flight when she heard cackling

"Are you serious? Nah it obviously ran away from home for being too ugly!" She stopped to glance over at the group mocking her. even here

"Dude, shut up! It can hear you" another voice, they were mixed breeds, but all looked disturbing in their own ways

"Please, I doubt it even speaks." a third voice spoke up, they sounded oddly snobby. She refused to look at who said what, she looked away almost immediately after seeing them, she didn't want to start anything. she just wanted to leave

"Pardon me!" an overly jovial voice cut through the laughter and the group fell silent. The air was tense all of a sudden.

She slowly looked over to see what looked like a ridgeback with..a top hat? what the-how did he even get that here!? what's more, the group were completely terrified, why? sure he was a ridgeback but not only is he outnumbered but he's also small for what he is.

"I appreciate a good laugh, care to fill me in on the joke?" his voice had lowered to an almost threatening tone

"A-ah Walter! Good to see ya man!" A Pearlcatcher with blemishes piped up "Uh...There's no joke here! Nope, none at all! You know you are looking just stunning tod-" he was cut off with a clawed hand around his throat "No joke?" the ridgeback called Walter started, voice now almost too quiet to hear "Oh, what a shame. I was so hoping that you could all fix this mood I've been put in" hand still tight around the Pearlcatcher's throat he continued to act innocent, despite the edge to his words "You see I noticed that a cruel group were mocking a lovely lady, and you know what kind of mood that puts me in?" he looked over to the others with a questioning look "Well?"

"A-a-a-a um...A killing mood sir?" A frankly giant snapper replied, the near unsettling smile returned to Walter's face "Ding ding! We have a winner! Now do me a favour" he finally released the pearlcatcher that had been desperately clawing at his hand "Don't encourage that mood, and leave while you still can" they began to scramble only to stop when he called out "OH, wait a moment! Do apologise to the lady"

They all turned to Iwi, still frozen in place witnessing this happening "Sorry ma-am!" "Yeah we're really sorry!"

Shocked beyond words she only uttered a quick "It's okay" before watching them sprint away

"Do forgive me!" Walter was suddenly in front of her. When did he move!? "I do dislike attitudes like that, I'm afraid it shows the ugly side of me!" He was completely back to the jovial man he was before

"U-um, yeah that's okay, I know a little something about being ugly" the last part was said jokingly but walter frowned

"Ugly? don't tell me those hooligans actually got to you! I only interfered because I didn't see what they were talking about, I do dislike when that happens"

"Very funny, anyway I should move on. I have to go somewhere I won't be attacked for what I look like"

"I'm not sure why you think I'm joking, but if it's sanctuary you need, well come with me! I know just the place!"

What harm could it be to have a look?

"Fine. The names Iwi"

After that day Iwi never felt left out again
