Biography

| CURTIS | [♫] Delicate Flower
{ Florist | He/Him | Gay }

Curtis was always at his cousin’s side. She was younger than him by several years, and so she was his responsibility. While their parents worked to provide for their families, Curtis chaperoned her around their hometown, a quiet hamlet where nothing ever happened and no one ever felt unsafe. For a young boy just beginning to stretch his wings, it was dreadfully boring, and having an even younger relative attached to his hip was almost unbearably embarrassing—but he was stubborn in his obligation to her, and loved her despite her stifling dependency on him.

It was through him that she found flowers. He picked them for her, and weaved them into intricate crowns to wear upon her head. She was so delighted with his gifts that she began to explore the meadows and fields herself. He watched over her patiently, teaching her how to identify species by color, size, and scent—and all the while his own passions swelled. He had a knack for growing things, a gentle, nurturing hand. Even his cousin, awkward and shy, blossomed under his tutelage.

Soon, a time came when he knew he must leave his fanciful childhood behind. He had his own life to live, and Luma could not be allowed to depend on him forever. Thus, when he learned of an opportunity to open his own flower shop in Feldspar, he took it. He had visited their lands on occasion, for work and for pleasure, and had fallen in love with the native flora. He would go, and Luma would learn to get along without him.

“I’ll be sure to visit now and again,” he assured her, “so please don’t throw a fit.”

Of course, and as he should have expected, Luma did precisely that. She cried, and stamped her feet, and told him that if he was going to live here, so was she, and that there wasn't anything he could do or say to change her mind. “We’re family!” she sniffled. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be near someone you love!”

Curtis couldn’t argue with her logic, so, begrudgingly, he accepted that he would never really be free of her—and, he supposed, he’d never really wanted to be in the first place. “I only want you to learn how to live on your own,” he told her, “so you’re going to do that, or I’m going to march you straight home to tell auntie and uncle that you’ve been acting like a brat again.”

They spend most days together now, and Luma has opened herself up to new people and experiences, while Curtis, as temperamental as his father, observes from a suitably unsociable distance. His flower shop keeps him too busy to fret over her much more than he already did; still, he keeps a close watch, and always makes time for flower crowns.
