The Clan welcomes all. Some dragons have little to no tragedies in their past, others have nothing but tragedy and sorrow. Skylar is one of those. Originally named Cloudskimmer, Skylar came from a Lightning Clan that fell on hard times and was attacked by enemy Beastclans. Fleeing into the clouds which resulted in the namesake, she flew until she wasn't able to anymore. Skylar didn't fly too far given her wounds and crashed down further into the Shifting Expanse. Greatly wounded, she thought about what she would do and could do. She had always been terribly conflicted being called by male pronouns, so she decided that if she was to live, she'd be true to herself as much as possible and introduce herself as a female dragon. To this, she decided to change her name to something more suited to her situation. It was then that Cloudskimmer renounced her original name and took on Skylar. Skylar was chosen because it continued her connection to clouds, both due to her coloration as well as her love of flying into them. She doesn't get confused flying through clouds like many dragons do and likes the feel of water vapor on her wings. Fortunately for Skylar, she was found by a couple of dragons out on Clan Defense patrol. They immediately provided some first aid that they had learned from Pavlina, which greatly helped prevent further damage, and took her back to the Clan so she could receive proper medical attention. Once that was taken care of, Skylar introduced herself. The rest of the Clan accepted her into their ranks. However, there was a problem-she was hateful of the friendly Beastclan members due to what happened with her old Clan. Initially, the idea was to keep her away from them so she could cool off (and to prevent unjust abuse towards them), but Skylar would deliberately seek them out to scream at them for what another Beastclan did. Spira, fearing that Skylar would drive a wedge between the dragons and Beastclan folk, stepped in. It was at this point in time she called Skylar to her. She explained to Skylar that while her anger is justified, it is NOT justified against those that hadn't harmed her. She went on further to explain that those enemy Beastclans that attacked her original Clan may have been attacked by a dragon Clan, whether accidentally or not, and they fell into the same hatred towards dragonkind as a whole like how she fell into her hate of Beastclans as a whole. In other words, hating everyone because they share the same characteristics that can't be changed because some of them hurt you, you become like them by continuing the cycle and more innocents get hurt in the process. Skylar shrugged it off and gave an angry retort about how they wouldn't know what it's like being her. To which Spira patiently replied, 'No one but you knows what it's like to be you. There may be similarities between yourself and some others, but ultimately your experiences are yours and yours alone. Just like you don't know their experiences either or what it's like to be them.' Agitated and considering leaving the Clan, she bumped into Hex. Sensing some serious anger from her, Hex coaxed her into her den to talk. Hex, using some of her researched therapy skills, set about to help Skylar through her struggles. At first, Skylar resisted, but as she was able to talk freely with Hex only talking here or there about how to maybe think about it in a more positive light, she calmed down. When she was calm, she was able to rethink about what Spira said and realized the logic to it. Skylar expressed to Hex her shame in how she behaved towards the Clan's Beastclan folk. Hex told her that she'll need to apologize, but that she needs to do it herself, not tell anyone else to do it for her. The best way to fight that shame is to do what it makes you feel horrible about so you can learn that you're not a horrible dragon, just a dragon that had some horrible moments and thoughts. Thoughts that can be changed for the better. It took her about two weeks before she was able to muster up the courage to talk to those she had hurt. But, she did it and most of the Beastclan folk were able to forgive her. There's still a few though that go out of their way to avoid her. Skylar even apologized to Spira about how she acted, to which Spira wasted no time in forgiving her. Skylar then decided to join under Joseff's Clan Defense as she is quite strong and wants to help protect her new Clan. She does see Hex every few weeks or so, given that she still has a lot of baggage to go through-her past, where she is now, and even that she's uncomfortable in her body frequently and wishes to sometimes lose the small horn on her head. She's been making progress, but does have a few times where she takes a few steps back. Skylar just keeps on trying with Hex's help. While she's comfortable with the friendly Clan Beastclan members, she's still rather wary of those not from the Clan.
