Aurelai

Despite being a large and powerful pearlcatcher, Aurelai prefers to spend his time learning and practicing the 'noble art of medicine' as he chooses to call it. He has embraced the role as his clan's primary care doctor, using natural medicine, advanced medical treatments, and magic all together to be the best healer he possibly can. Despite his original self-doubt, he managed to surpass Myrial herself - the best mage in the clan - in medical magic.

In his old home, Aurelai was pushed to be a warrior, using his physical strength and propensity for magic to fight. He refused, and detests when anyone insinuates he ought to follow a different path than the one he chose himself.

Hatchlings will go to him for torn scales and pulled claws, or rips in their wing fabric or broken teeth. Aurelai knows how to fix nearly any issue that can be had with a dragon, and the variety of breeds within the clan only serve to help him develop his knowledge base further. His familiar, Smokemane, helps him - frightened hatchlings can pet the soft seal for moral support while he fixes them up, distracting them from the stings of medicine.

He is honest about whether or not something will hurt, and hatchlings find themselves less afraid of doctors and medical visits than they were when they walked into his office. Even just an ordinary check-up is done with enough no-nonsense respect that they end up feeling happier than when they arrived.

Despite his stoic appearance and tone, he is extremely gentle and caring, and young dragons love him and trust him. He is loyal to the clan and cares more about keeping everyone safe and healthy than anything else.

He also greatly enjoys artwork, and if a clan member finds an old map or painting, he is the first to claim such a treasure should it be offered up for grabs. This is despite his natural affinity for fire - interestingly, his natural magic is best in fighting fires, as he seems to be able to calm and soothe fires rather than set them.

Recently he's enlisted Raphide's help in the creation of many different potions and poultices to aid in healing, magical or otherwise. It's been very helpful for the clan, and the Plateau's excellent growing environment makes it ideal for cultivating species that might not ordinarily be found there, leading to a robust greenhouse of ingredients they can use. Extra supplies are sold off for the clan.

The only time Aurelai has become seriously injured since coming to live with the Wide Sky clan was when Nerita was first found. He was a bedraggled, half-dead hatchling found on the beach, and Vartija found him and rushed him to the infirmary for treatment. Just a little wisp of a thing, barely alive, completely insensate. Aurelai laid one claw on him to diagnose his injuries and was struck by the torrent of Worldsea-aligned nightmares that poured through him, so powerfully so that Aurelai himself was immediately sent into a comatose state. Myrial had to time-warp and reverse chronology on the portions of his brain that had been instantly killed, and remove his memories of the event. He knows what happens, but he cannot remember any of it. Nerita was treated by other dragons while Aurelai was undergoing emergency procedures.
Aside from that, Aurelai has been living a comfortable life in the Wide Sky clan.
