It was some time after Volker integrated himself into the clan that Lacaille showed up, trailing phantom wisps and fragrant petals in his wake. While the others were initially reluctant to allow the strange — and frankly, pretty unfriendly — Coatl into their midst, Volker's immediate reaction to seeing his old friend came in the form of elation and excitement, and he welcomed Lacaille in with open arms. With Volker vouching for him, the rest of the clan were grudgingly convinced to let him stay, and so Lacaille has remained.

Lacaille is as mercurial and mysterious as his companion, though less approachable and a great deal more unpredictable. Not overly fond speaking much about himself or his past, he's closed-off and rude where Volker is (mostly) open and cheerful, and as a result, he's made few friends since joining the clan. That doesn't seem to bother Lacaille - rather, this state of affairs apparently suits the Coatl, as the others only come to bother him when they actually need something and otherwise prefer to leave him alone. They say there's a bad feeling about him, an aura that repels others— and not everyone is inclined to believe that's just due to his bad personality.

Whatever the others sense about him doesn't affect Volker at all - the Imperial has no trouble sharing personal space with his companion and, notably, is the only one Lacaille ever allows to get close to him. Mostly, the Coatl keeps to himself, secluded in the out of the way spot he and Volker share, made up of both their private living quarters and workshops. When he's not reciting esoteric charms under his breath, dusting the place with dried petals and painted sigils, Lacaille is crushing bone into fine powder and brewing strange potions with questionable ingredients. Anyone who has any sense of self-preservation is wary of agreeing to taste test any of his concoctions.
