B I O G R A P H Y

Firebrand came slinking his way into Misfits Landing, his breath thick with Dragon's Brew. Viper's eyes slid to Beaumont, who heeded her silent command and promptly ousted the troublemaker. Unbeknownst to Viper, who lead the clan, Firebrand was as patient as he was persistent. He returned the very next day, a cloud of smoke emanating from a long pipe hanging from his mouth.

"I have traveled long and far," he said, taking the pipe from his mouth. "I have heard a great many things about your clan. I have heard tales of your generosity. I have heard that you take in all who can pay. Have I heard wrong?"

He paused dramatically and Viper's eyes narrowed dangerously. She had no patience for fools. After disregarding his dusty hat and threadbare waistcoat, not to mention that obnoxious pipe, Viper decided he was no ordinary fool. That made him dangerous.

They stood less than ten feet from each other, taking stock of one another. Viper knew all it'd take was one single command, and this stranger would be dragon scrap. The dragon before her seemed to be unaware of this fact. Or perhaps aware but unafraid. That gave her pause.

Eider, her second in command, sidled up to her.

"I sense no malice in him. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to hear what he has to say. I will know if he is untruthful."

B I O G R A P H Y

Turning to Firebrand, Eider regarded the dragon with cautious curiosity. He too, sensed danger in this stranger. Still, he gave a friendly nod and prompted the fellow from the Sunbeam Ruins to tell his story. Viper allowed it with a stiff nod.

"My name is Firebrand. I was born under a different name but that is of little importance. I come to you after traversing this world. After years of travel, I am weary. If you would accept me as one of your own, I have collected timeless treasures from nearly every realm. I could make you the most enviable clan in the Realm. And if treasure does nothing for you, I can buy my way in with a much more tantalizing form of payment."

Viper snorted. She'd heard enough. This stranger had definitely caught the curiosity of the rest of the clan, however. Viper had never seen her charges so riveted. Eider caught her eye and she could tell he didn't like this dragon any more than she did.

"And what do you value more than treasure?"

Viper groaned inwardly. Of course Valdis would like this vagabond. Her voice didn't carry as much contempt as it usually did.

Firebrand regarded the female Imperial with a degree of curiosity. Most Imperials were rigidly self sacrificial. Firebrand saw the all the tragic possibility she wielded within herself. All that rage, all that fury perfectly packaged in the most volatile of dragon species. Oh, yes, he was intrigued.

"Why, knowledge, of course."

Valdis grunted, no longer interested in the odd stranger or the conversation. He would fit well in Arcane. She'd never seen a realm so obsessed with knowledge.
